So much speculation about performance, color, options, etc.. I've yet to see anything on forum or any mags about the cost of the '02. Any guesses??

The reason I bring this up is that I remember in the '80's when the RX-7's jumped from the mid/high teens to 30k+ in one production year because of increased performance and popularity. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Maybe if we all go on a letter writing campaign to the General saying how much we hate the '06 and would never buy them, the price will drop and we can scoop em up. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif Wishful thinkin' but fun nevertheless

I would imagine at the VERY least another $1k over the year end price of the '01. That has been the standard procedure to raise the price by around 2% - 3% per year. Even though the option list was inexpensive they are making a couple of those items standard. And don't forget, you have to pay for hud whether you want it or not. Also, given the popularity of the '01, and the idea that many dealers were able to get $3K to $5K over MSRP, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for additional 5% to 6% over '01. That would put MSRP just over $50K. Even at a little over $50K, they will sell very well and will still be the best performance value on the planet. I know if I didn't have an '01 and was considering an '02, a few extra $K would not keep me from buying it. The car is worth it! However, I do not plan on trading/selling my '01 or buying an '02. Those of you that do not have an '01 and are getting '02, you will not be sorry even if you have to pay a few $K more!

I just bought a '01, negotiated for many hours non-stop and still had to pay over MSRP. Dealer tried to get $63k ($13K markup over MSRP) and I managed to talk him down to under $51k ($55k OTD). Dealer had 8 Z06s sitting on the lot and just would not budge off of high markup on all but the one I got.

The black one I bought had been preowned with 2400 miles, already registered and no luxo tax, so I thought it would be easier to score a "good deal". Nope, dealer held the line all too well, and only after 6 1/2 hours of all out haggling, they finally took pity on me and dropped the price to where I could live with it.

In the end, I rationalize that if I had just walked and then waited for a '02 Z06 to come along, I'd probably be at least $10k poorer for essentially the same car.

It would be nice to have HUD and a Z06 in my favorite color (got a black one, but wanted quicksilver), plus an updated engine with 20 more HP, but all honesty not worth all the extra dinero.

Unless the national economy continues to go down hill or totally winds up in the dumper in Q4 (can you say recession?), I predict the '02 Z06 will go up, way up in price.

My advice is to find a '01 you can afford to buy now & lock in at a lower price. You'll most likely wind up saving many thousands in the process. Of course, if money no object, go for it and get the "405HP" emblem on the hood to make you feel better.
