Too much bad news the last few days.

1. I see it posted you can buy a Z06 at GMS pricing. My resale value is going through the bottom.

2. I see that GM has figured how to solve the Z06 oil issues, and a few other smaller issues like handling, cam, cat converter, vortex, MAF--but they saved all the fixes to go on the 02s.

3. I see two people posting about serious engine cylinder problems

AND FINALLY...

4. I go race the quarter mile--and the next day I see a CF post saying that GM has a clause in the warranty that voids it if the car is used for ANY racing. WTF!

First off, I don't have my warranty with me, but is this clause really there? Can it possibly be??? What is "racing" and what isn't?

Second, it's rumored GM is surfing the web to determine who the racers are, and storing the info to void warranty claims later on. If this is true, it won't be up to the dealer whether to honor the warranty or not, GM will just reject any work.

Anybody know if this policy is really being enforced, if it is indeed a policy?

As for the major engine problems, It seems isolated but there haven't been many LS6s out there long enough to see if there really is a problem with engine longevity. I'm not too worried about this yet, but...

As for the 02 updates, they should offer 01s very inexpensive updates. Hib's letter sure made it sound like they wanted to do most the stuff for 01 but ran out of time. I can live without the stuff, but....

As for value, oh well...it's like the market, sometimes values rise, sometimes they drop...fast...

I don't feel TOO GOOD right now!

Somebody come up with some good news for us 01ers, please.

I agree with you. If they bump the HP for 03 (and I think they will), then we are really going to be in a mess with resale. Further, I think it sucks for GM to partially blame the driver for this oil issue. Since we now know that GM not only surfs the forums, but is acting on it----I am afraid to post even my dinky little thoughts.

I wouldn't get excited about re-sale dropping on our '01 Z's.....The post about GMS pricing is to help move the few remaining '01 Vets in stock. In my opinion, GMS pricing is very rare and will not be repeated.

Don't use your real name, and don't post pictures of your license plate either. I am just as frustrated about the oil issues as all of you even though I don't have that problem. It just the way F**King Dave Hill and his F**King team dealing with it.

I better stop typing now...........

You seem a little naive.

In order to interest potential buyers of new products, it is fairly common for manufacturers to improve their products. They aren't in the business of making collectibles for current owners, so you should have anticipated improvements for future models, and expected your car to drop in value. I will bet the 2003 Z06, if there is one, will have some improvements over the 2002, etc, etc.

Regarding racing and car warranties, I was always aware that car warranties did not cover racing incidents, weren't you? What car manufactuers cover racing incidents under warranty repair?

Warranties cover manufacturing defects under normal conditions. Did you think your warranty covered body damage if you run your car into a brick wall at 150 mph? If the warranty is important to you, I suggest you read it before you purchase the merchandise in question.

What you called bad news, was "no" news to most people.

I think GM would say the racing is not normal abuse, and of course it is not. This is not something new to GM or any car makers, I know plenty of people in the late 80's that were denied warranty coverage for racing their C4's . The oil thing is another problem and that is why I waited until 02' for my Z06, and I agree with you guys that I would pissed because I do not want Mr. Goodwrench ripping my engine apart, they should have offered a better fix than they are doing, but beside the oil issue the Z06 is a great car for sure.

I may get flamed for this but here it goes...

I didn't buy a Z06 because I knew it would would be a reliable car with no issues. And I didn't buy it because I thought it was going to be a good "investment". I bought it because it's a fricken race car. If I wanted a "well" built car I would have bought another honda, not an American made, self proclaimed weekend race car. Before I purchased the Z06 I knew that it would have problems. IMHO, that's just part of it. I'm paying for performance...

As for the warranty...I'm not sure why anyone would think they would cover anything damaged due to racing. And, also why any corporation would not try to get out of paying for whatever they could avoid. GM already has 50K your cash, do you think they want to give some of that back out of the kindness of their heart...They are a business not your racing sponsor...

Bottom line...I'm glad they made it...and I'm glad I bought it...

I STILL LOVE MY CAR

I just think it would be a bunch of BS when my power windows stop working--they always do on GM cars--after 2 years, or the AC, and they won't fix it becase I allegedly had my car timed in the quarter mile.

If I were to be racer, I sure wouldn't expect the warranty to cover brakes, engines, clutches, etc. But I'm not a racer, just a "test & tune night" guy.

It's too late now I guess, they have my license tag, and probably matched it up with my VIN. If you GM spys are looking now, two words: BLOW ME. Take your warranty and shove it up your ASS!!

You deny me one claim and I'll take my car up to the factory and park it in the managers spot and set it on fire! Then piss all over it.

You are a bunch of corporate Assholes who deserve to be bought out by Volkswagen. Take this Z and shove it!

HELLO !

If you really followed your beloved Corvettes history (with the exception of the fuel crisis years) you'd know that they always improve and increase HP from year to year within the "generation". The first year or two any car is made is always the "growing pains" period, until they find out all of the problems and try to fix 'em. Just because you paid a lot of money (don't get me wrong, the best buy for the bucks) doesn't mean that you're getting perfection, you're getting a Z06. As they say "the faster you go, the more you break". As far as collectibility it's a Corvette it will be worth something in a bunch of years and it being a "Z" will make it worth a little more. All though we all love the hell out of these things let's face it they aren't really exotic, exclusive, or even rare. While some of the guys here have some really unique cars/set-ups, it's not like each one of the Z06s is 1 of only a few.

Hate me if you want

I can live with the fact that cars improve each year, especially the 2nd year. I'd just like for the improvements to filter down to us at a discounted price, maybe. If not, I'll be ok with my 01 as is, no problemo.

This warranty crap though, pisses me off, they practically brainwashed me into testing the hi-performance aspect of it, now they want to use it to distance themselves for liability, that's BS.

Well, I never raced anyway, if my AC breaks, they better fix it!

I'm sorry, but a few other small issues like Handling?!?!...

Let me Quote Road and Track here a second... "The Z06 delivers skidpad performance that's the best of any road car we've ever tested"

Also - Please feel free to check my Sig, in it you will find a link to some Mpegs (That will be on this site soon)... you will see a low 2 min 40 second lap @ Road America... The internet is a large place, if you find me a lap time that is Better that mine, in a stock car, you let me know... I'm not saying that I'm the man... but I know a lot of people that roadrace... and none of them have heard about a ztock car with street tires and all doing that kind of time around Road America...

I'm going back in another month or 2, I hope to beat the Record on www.drivingevents.com for Road America...

It's amazing to me that people that can afford one of these cars are so naive when it comes to business. Let me fill all you conspiracy theorist in on a few secrets;
1. Companies exist to return profits to their shareholders
2. GM is a poorly run company (Aztek!) that came very close to discontinnuing the Vette. They could care less about YOUR cars collectibility. If collectibility puts money in their pocket, guess what, they will care.
3. We bought the first year production of a $50,000 race car. Even Honda and BMW have initial teething problems.
4. CARS GET IMPROVED EVERY YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
Except in Indonesia where the exact same car has been made since 1958. I'm pretty sure it doesn't do the quarter mile in 12.6 seconds and have A/C, leather and a CD player.
5. The CIA did not introduce crack to Compton.
6. Elvis is dead.
7. Dave Hill is not jotting your names down and sharing them with with the legal dept. in case you have a future warranty claim.

If I sound like an ass it's only because I'm sick of Americans F*^&%% whining about everything.

Life ain't perfect, neither is the Z06.

50k, if you weren't here you wouldn't know that we whine about everything.

There's no conspiracy, just an image GM sold the car with. I call it decetive advertising. I call it lack of a conspicous disclaimer. That's what we have courts for here in America, and I bet we will soon be "whining" there.
