They are already building them. Look for the 4th week of July for them to be hitting the showroom floors.

Thanks much!!!
SF,

The 2002 Z06 went into production the week of
June 25th. The new model has 20 more horsepower, refined suspension, improved clutch, HUD, cast wheels, and the Electron Blue color option. Do some research on the web as there are now lots of great articles describing the 2002 features.

In a practical sense, 20 horsepower in 385 isn't a whole lot and 2001 models are now available at $4000 discounts from MSRP. I chose to drive the first year depreciation out of my car, but the choice is yours.

Keep us informaed of your progress and decision. jerboa /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

2001 Z06 + Halltech - HUD does not equal 2002 Z06. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif Though, its a tie in HP.

Anyways enjoy the 2001, tere are few cars of the road that can keep up with it, let alone beat it. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif There is this 2001 amborghini Diablo VT 6.0 by my house, we'll take it to Moroso though. No "Fast and the Stupid" here. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif :lo:

I was torn between the 01 color I wanted and the 02 newer model. I ended up ordering both, flipped a coin and cancelled the other.

Either way I win!
It really depends on the Owner, if you are the type to never mod a single thing... the '02 is a better buy. If you are the type to do limited bolt on's, it makes no sense to trade up, or purchase an '02.

The nitty gritty difference comes down to...
Revised Rear Shocks... (Trust me... they wont be revised enough to be as good or better than a real performance shock like Koni or Penske) I have Penske's on my '01 Z-06

No MAF Screen (Simple Addition, though I would recommend PCM tuning as well.)

6" Square hole in Airbox, instead of 2" Square... again easily changed/swapped. Even better would probably be a Halltech, or the like.

Slightly bigger Camshaft & Lighter Valves with Increased Valve Springs. This is where you have to make up your mind... If you like to mod cars... this is a bad choice... why spend the dough, and the remove the only true difference between an '01 & an '02?

Instead of 400 Crank HP... you can have 400 RWHP with any of the Major Tuners. (Actually a lot are getting 390+ out of just camshaft & Exhaust! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif )

And of course... if you gotta have HUD... you gotta have an '02...

And if you gotta have White... You gotta have an '01

(I HAVE TO HAVE WHITE!) I love the color to much, especially in AZ!

Peace, enjoy whichever car you choose! You will love either one!

I sold my '01 for an '02...... I bought my 01 a a great deal, sold it almost for what I paid. The difference in cost is ~ 1yrs depreciation. So like the others have said, if your going to do heavy mods, you could use the savings for the mods. If your going to keep the car forever, less depreciation after many years & the difference in value of 1 yr. older cars shrink. I tend to flip my cars, so I try to buy early in the model year to get the most for my depreciation $$. LOL And last of all I think the 01 has a little of a bad rep from the ring issue, which GM claims to be solved in 02. I loved my 01, if the '02 didn't sound so good I would have kept it, it was one awsome ride.

Bob
I am also worried about the '01 rep. I had to get the booster 2 weeks after I got the car. Oil leak was serious and of all things the parking brake didn't work. Top it off, I got hit in the parking lot ( I know that's not GM's problem but I have never had an accident in 25 years ). You get spooked, -> dropped it off at my dealer's and am waiting for an '02
