Okay... I have a friend that just purchased a white 1997 Saleen with an S351 (510hp!) He says it will smoke the Z06 in the quarter... /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif

I say the Z06 will edge out on the Saleen with its gearing. I've seen posts where 01 Z06's are running low 12's! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif The Saleen seems to hit mid 12's fairly consistently (my friend says 11's).

Has anyone ever raced a Saleen S351 in the 1/4 mile? Would love any info.......

Not in the 1/4 but twice from 20mph and 40mph on the street....

Got em both times by about 1.5-2 car lengths at 120mph.....Not scientific I know, but there you have it....

I have never raced an s351, however I have extensive racing experience. My freind owns a 99' GTS ACR Viper, which is stated to run a 12.1 quarter mile and his car is all stock. My Z06 has only intake modifications and I figure is good for maybe a 12.4 on a good day. I have raced him twice on the street, I won once and he won once. The moral of the story is, when two cars are comparable in acceleration, it comes down to the launch and the driver to determine the winner of the race. Word of wisdom to you though, if you beat him on the first race, don't give him a rematch, you never know what the second outcome might be.

I don't know how much he spent. Never asked. I know he was looking in the range of $40k. I should get a ride in it by next weekend. I'll let everyone know just how bad these S351 Rustangs really are!

It's still a shoebox on wheels. Don't just run the 1/4 mile, take him to a road course for some real fun. That piece of crap rustang won't have a chance when you have to brake and turn. The Z06 out classes it and most others by far in the handling department.

I'm no drag racer, however, I have had the opportunity to drive both an 01 ZO6, and a 99 Saleen on the same track. (Lime Rock) While the Saleen was very fast along the main straightaway, It took a considerable amount of paitence, timing, and strength to guide the Mustang through the S's.(sound familliar Ford fans?) The Saleen had a considerable amount of body roll when tossing the car from one turn to the next. The ZO6, on the other hand, was rock solid thru the same line, in fact, I was able to run a much a much tighter line with more speed and control. The Vette was able to put the power down(all 385 horses worth)much sooner out of the turns, and, wouldn't drift half as much as the Saleen. All in all they were both fun to drive. That was on a Sunday, the following Tuesday I ordered my 02 ZO6 Quicksilver/Black. The following lap times should tell you why:

SALEEN Lap 1 1:06:45
Lap 2 1:05:96
Lap 3 1:05:88

01 ZO6 Lap 1 1:04:62
Lap 2 1:03:77
Lap 3 1:05:25 (sorry zo6 fans)
Lap 4 1:03:06 (FTD)

That should about put the "Fast Saleen" rumors to bed for a while. Nice car, But It's no ZO6.

Friend of mine runs 1:58 laps at Lime Rock in a C5 FRC (non-zo6). Wonder what he'd do in a real ZO6.
FWIW, he ran a 1:56 in a new Ferrari Modena F1 with the paddle shifter. He really liked the shifter and would love to see one in the Corvette.

Ok, lurking over... This past weekend a few members of the local Corvette club went to the strip just for fun. Well, there was the high-dollar rustang (S351) waiting for them. Although I am the only local member with a Z06, there were several C5's there. Unfortunately, many of them were "show beauties." Temps were in the low 90's at about 7:00pm with around 90% humidity. Even in this weather, the Saleen was running 12.4 (not sure of the MPH, but he WAS on slicks.)

The C5's were turning adverage times in the 13.1-13.5 range. Sadly enough, I rode with someone there to avoid temptation (only got 1200 miles on my car.) I don't think any of us are really "drag-racers", so an experienced driver surely could have done better.

We are going back out there this weekend, and I think I will be driving instead of riding this time. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well I've owned both a 1995 Saleen S351-R and the 2001 Z06. The Z06 is superior to the Saleen in just about all categories especially traction. The S351-R is extremely fast but it can't hook up for [email protected]#t. The Z06 hooks soooo much better and goes. If the S351-R raced a Z06 in 3rd and 4th gear only it would win(more raw power). Red light to red light, braking, or on a road course, the Z06 wins hands down.
Oh yea! If both cars went to the track w/slicks the S351-R is capable of mid 11's but it has 10# of boost. The Z06 is all motor. Imagine a Z06 w/the new vortech kit. Sweeeet

well i am new here and i am only 14 but in a drag race it would be close. it would be up to driver skill. the saleen has awesome power but lacks the traction. ask your friend if he has the 18x10 wheel upgrade on his saleen. on the road course the ZO6 would most likey win. it pulls 1G while the saleen pulls >95 i believe. dont bash cars. rustang is not a cool phrase to be heard especially when they aint.

So, how do you get all these runs in at Lime Rock?? I am going in August with NASA but if there are other ways to get laps in, I would like to know. I know it's late for this year but next year will be here soon enough!! I want more laps!
