OK... lets try to put some of this into perspective... I think some of you out there may be confusing these details (Or I could be wrong)... But the only 'Real' Changes I see out of this list would be what I have *** next to them...

"Engine (LS6) Upgraded to 405 HP / 400 ft. lbs. Torque.
Previous Year--> New Air Cleaner
Previous Year--> New Mass Air Flow Sensor
***** Revised Valve Springs and Camshaft
***** Head Up Display (UV6) Made Standard Equipment on Z06.
Previous Year-->Z06 Gets Thinner, Lighter-Weight Front Windshield.
***** Z06 Front Fender Emblem Displays HP.
***** Could be new.. but they said '01 was different also... and proved to be the same.-->New High Performance Brake Pads -
***** Z06 Cast Aluminum Wheels Lighter by 0.15 kg Per Wheel.
(2001 was Forged Wheel)
***** This just says you cannot order them individually anymore. Driver Convenience Package (AAB) includes Memory Presets and Electrochromic Mirrors, Packaged Together As Optional Equipment on Z06 Hardtop.

So what do you guys think?

Dave Schotz,
I think you hit the nail on the head. Let's be realistic. GM isn't going to do any drastic changes on the 2002 Z06 to make 405 SAE rated horsepower. What is likely is that the 405HP is realistic to the 385HP rating now enjoyed by our fellow Z06 bretheren. Like the 1986 Buick Grand Nationals, the 1987 Buick Grand National horsepower rating increased by 10HP to 245 for no apparent reason. Of course, a few magazines posted false information about where the 10HP increase came from. It was conjecture, pure speculation and vaporware. The real question is, "What are insurance companies going to think when they read an exterior badge/emblem that reads, "405 HP""?

I will be interested in seeing rwhp data for the 2002. If what I have been told is correct and you have about a 15% loss from engine to rear wheels, then the '01s at 342rwhp are 402HP. I have read and been told that even though GM published 385, it is more like 400 for the '01. If the '02 puts up 362rwhp, then they definitely got an extra 20HP.

If the changes are what they appear, it will not be compelling enough for me sell my '01 and get the '02. I am not excited by the blue nor the HUD. Now, if it was another 60rwhp, hmmmmmmm.

It sounds like the '01 & '02 will be very similar in most respects. I didn't see any mention of different interior choices. It is nice to see that there will be some obvious (to us anyway) visual differences between '01 & '02.

Has anyone heard any recent '01 Z06 production numbers. Did it make it to 4,000?

Items that are attractive to me are the 20 hp, hud, and wheels. Also have to consider price increase. Cost to upgrade to 2002 will determine final decision for me.

I like my car just the way it is, except for some more HP. The cost of trading up to a 02 would be more than the cost of a good head and cam package IMHO, then you have 425 or more.

The horsepower increase is actual. It is not an adjusted rating. I don't know how to make it much clearer. Different cam, different cam, different cam...

A cam and vlave spring change spring change are not "drastic" changes. It's as simple as building the motor with a different bumpstick.

I don't suggest that anyone should trade their Z06 over 20HP. It is a 20HP motor change, not an advertising copy change. I think this will be apparent when the cars hit the streets and dynos.
