The March 13 date for Firebird looks like a good date. Let's try to get Ken stirred up and see what he says. I am sure the hotel will accomidate us and a Thursday Dyno day at ADC should be pretty easy to line up.
Let's keep this thread going and get people interested. :yeadog:

it looks like maybe Ken was allowing Glen to organize things this year, I may be wrong though:lol:

Glenn
You are welcome to run the show if you like!! PLEASE
:drunken:

WinterFest has had the 'last weekend of Feb, 1st of Mar time frame.....'
Dates revolve around Pro Auto Sports' calendar.........

Firebird road racing as been the center point of the last two........

That will continue..........
BG has the WART, we have Firebird!!
I believe this one is better for this area!!

I have put together an outline of events.
This far out it's just ideas!!

Yeah, what Tom said. It would be no problem to set up a block of rooms at the Hotel. I think Ken has already lain the ground work for that. We just need to settle on some dates and get this rolling so people have time to plan.

I can put together a cruise for Thursday (maybe not as cool as the WART tour) if there is interest, and we can see some Arizona sites. There's lots to do and see... the Grand Canyon, old gold mine tours, ghost towns, jeep tours into the desert, Casinos with shows, Yarnell Hill twisties (the locals know about Yarnell Hill), river boat dinner cruises, PIR (that's Hwy 89, or Pason International Raceway as the locals call it) :sneaky:

For those who don't wish to drag race, the world's largest on-going car show is held in Scottsdale every Saturday. The second Saturday of the month is Corvette Saturday and there will be a hundred or so Vettes, along with just about any other kind of custom car you might want to see. You name it, we have it.

Should we start a poll to gauge interest?
This sounds like a good basis Steve, and since you are unemployed with all that FREE time....

Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday sounds good. Is this going to be a 4 day Fest, with Wednesday being arrival and Sunday is departure or is it Monday?

I never been on them Yarnell Twisties. How long is it?
Maybe we can incorporate the twisties before or after the DYNO day? Or both depending how far it is away from dyno..... I would like to get some video of us as well.

Firebird Track all day on Friday followed with dinner at Rustler's Roost?

Speedworld Saturday followed dinner at _________???, then to the Pavillions? Maybe we can get reserved slots for our grand arrival? Like, if we have a total of 15 Vettes coming out, the Vette crew "out there" can reserve us some slots..... If not, I will volunteer to go sit out there with some DO NOT CROSS THIS LINE tape to save us some slots as long as someone kept me company and you guys brought us dinner! Hahahahaha......

I think a nice group photo with cars is in order. Steve do you know any place that has a nice back drop where we can arrange our cars in a half moon/semi-circle and still get up high enough to get a pic looking down? A balcony, stairwell etc. Keep your eyes open for a big area, field, etc with nice back drop. And no, TARGET don't count. If need be, We can always throw a 6' ladder on Kens roof. :pp:

Well, I know some of you were doubtful of the Winterfest poster, but I have to tell you...I had one printed, and it is now the proud owner of a black frame and hanging in my garage. It looks awesome!

Since they are $50.00 each by Staples, I am willing to RAFFLE IT OFF.

I mean, it would be a nice keep sake. Depending on how many people wish to participate, will determine cost of tickets. Just enough so one lucky person gets the poster, and I get enough money to buy one again.....(with another frame) Must be present to win! Hahahahahaha So come on out!!!!

So, if we have 70 people show, tickets will be $1.00

If 25 people show, tickets will be $3.00 etc.

Or I can just buy 200 tickets and sell them at $1.00 each and you can buy as many as you want. But we must reach 70 ticket sales to raffle so I can get my poster and frame again.

I think it would be nice if we all signed the back of it and then did the raffle.

Really, it looks awesome!!! I iwll take a pic and post it.

Its just a suggestion and I like to bring a little to the table, ya know?

If you want T Shirts, let me know in advance so I can make sure they get done. But, I won't have them printed unless I know 100% we have 35 or more selling. I put out $500 or so upfront last year to get them made. Depending on how many screens they need to create determined the overall costs. Usually no more than $15.00 but the average last year was $10.00 per shirt because the screen/vector image was already created from the year before.

A new design yeilds new screens. = higher costs, but should not be higher than $15.00 a shirt.

Let me know.

If you want smaller posters, I can order some. But, the one I am willing to raffle is 24" x 36".

Knowing my luck, my car will die by then.:cry::cry:

Glenn, there are plenty of places to do a group shoot, and as for the twisties, it would be about as far of a drive as we took on the WART tour.

And? Just how far was that buddy? I wasn't at any ZO6Fests....
Oh.

I see.

(just teasing) :D

The Hotel will probably be the same as last year and that's south and everything that's fun to drive is north, so the 3 options I know of for twisties range from 150 to 250 round trip miles from the Hotel. I figure we can do that in about 45 minutes.

J/K again!

There are some fine restaurants at mid point, whichever route we take and I think a lunch cruise would be a good idea myself, to break up the long drive.

I guarantee if you go on one of these, you'll get your fill of twisties for awhile.

Steve, have you even been up Mount Lemon in Tucson? That would be one hell of a sweet cruise. It is just 100 miles from the hotel and the twisties/turning of Mount Lemon are 30 miles in length! Well worth the drive down. The first time I went up Mont Lemon with a Tucson Crew, I was amazed! But it would be best going early in the morning and having lunch at the top. (A German resturaunt). Believe me, the 100 mile drive from Phoenix to Tucson can be spirited. (A one hour drive) It is long and perfectly straight. Good for a cruise and a few runs..... But the drive up Mount Lemon is very scenic and most spirited!!! Lead vehicle should have a radar detector though. You never know.....

I had a BLAST last time we went up. I will try and get some video footage loaded. Really, the 30 mile twisties were awesome! Anyone else been up Mount Lemon, please chime in.

I couldn't imagine the fun with 20+ Vettes! And there are several huge cut outs with parking. Large enough for a photo shoot.

Glen,

The return from Mt Lemmon to Phoenix could be through Florence (not I-10). There are straights that you can get your beast to breath just right. I would not say that you could exceed the speed limit, that would be against the law. But you could sure test your car aerodynamic capabilities. It is a well kept road, one lane each way, with not much traffic.

Yes Glenn, we've been up Mt. Lemon. It is a very nice ride. As with any of these drives, since they are in the mountains, they're very scenic. If you get behind Ollie and Lena from Wisconsin in their Buick, you might get to see some. If you're behind me, you'll be watching the road. :yeadog: (I love smack talk)

Juan, Hwy 79 between Florence and Oracle Jct is flat, straight and smooth for about 60 miles and in a few places you can see forever in both directions. We've tested our car's aerodynamics there on several occasions. (however never exceeding the speed limit. we only do that on closed roads in Mexico)

Any of these drives would be a hoot, but as stated, nothing is real close to the Hotel. I don't know about the rest of you but we put several hundred miles on our car most every week just cruising, so a few more is fine with us.

If we get enough interest, we'll plan something. Anyone interested?

Where is Ken??? Anyone know how to contact him?

Steve, that long straight from Phoenix to Florence sounds too good. I can't wait to see how well my car really performs at 65 mph.:lol::lol: While we're up there, we can always get a tour of the Florence County prison. :pp:

Can we keep Mount Lemon open as an option and just keep an eye on weather? We can make a final call 2 weeks out. February in Tucson can be nice or can be snow. But the drive up would be awesome. What we can do, is let you go first and clear the way for the rest of us..... :sneaky:

Glenn, sure, we can keep all the options open until the day of the cruise if we want. They're all about the same distance and drive times and all have great scenic views. :thumb:

I spoke with Ken and he's going to pass on contact info for the Hotel. So have we settled on March 12, 13, 14 for the dates of the Fest, with departure on the 15th? If so, I'll work on getting us a block of rooms for those dates. I'm going to start a poll to see who's coming.

I hope we can set this up for sometime in Mar. that will give me a few months to get another Z. I'm getting close folks. I'd love to attend another west fest. Also, I can see if a few of my other Vette buddies from CO will make it out again. Cross your fingers I can find another car in time!
