ok why is that you cant get 400rwhp just from bolt ons and a tune?

If some cars have heard to dyno close to 370rwhp bone stock, and if headers and tune gives you no less then 20rwhp and some over 30rwhp, why cant some bolt on Z06 hit 400rwhp?

I guess it depends on what you consider a bolt-on. It sounds like you consider headers to be a bolt-on, than I would guess an electric water pump and under drive pulley would also fall into that category. If that is true, than 400RWHP should not be a problem with a good tune.

it is strange ... stock dynos can range from 345 to 365rwhp but after headers, air intake and a tune they all end up around 380 to 385rwhp...some add pulleys, remove cats and a few other external mods to make 390rwhp but that is about the limit....maybe has something to do with mechanical engineering and diminishing return (?).

Im guessing the definition of bolt on is clear because you could literly bolt on a turbo and that is a bolt on literly, but I guess you got to take it the way we talk about cars, and bolt ons can be anything that replaces a stock part without going into the engine, and not adding anything that was not there before, Am I right?

I guess "bolt-on" should be replaced with "replacements" or "up-graded parts" but then going into to the motor you could 'up-grade' the cams or 'replace' the cams, so we'd be back to the start

I know what you mean. I dynoed my car last year at a Vette gathering here in the Fairfax area. I did really well for stock car. I needed baseline before I started doing mods. See "my garage" for test results. Well, I did so well that I am apprehensive about bolting anything on that might give me negative results. Because we all know that some things will add, and some will subtract HP. Just the nature of the beast. One day I will make a decision on what to add, of course, thats after I have gleaned every last bit of info out of you guys on the subject.

GClausen, I would like to see what kinda of Mph it would do traps in the 1/4, after I dynoed and saw that I was making less power then stock because of being way too rich, I still wanted to prove it in the 1/4, by checking the traps, and it showed me that I was slower in the 1/8 by 2-4 mph but caught up at the top end because of the Vararam sucking in air at speeds, so it proved too things to me, you need a tune after a CAI install to make more power then stock and the vararam does work on speeds above 50mph as stated :D

Yes, I agree that tuning is a must after each "bolt on" application, but what I have read here after the last year, some products work as claimed and some don't. When I do add something to my car, I plan to have it tuned as well.

Interesting you bring this up, i am going to try to hit 400RWHP with bolt ons only. By bolt on's i mean no cam, charger, turbo, no FI. I plan to add headers,TB, Varaam, maybe a electric water pump, and a tune. I really want to hit 400RWHP without a cam. Once i get to that il throw a 125 shot of N20 and hit 500hp and call it a day. ;) :yeadog:

Thats my goal, let me know how it goes with you!

why does an electic water pump add power?

and I heard a TB doesnt had any power?

The electric water pump add power because its no longer driven by the belt, so there is less loss because now the belt/pulley system has to move less items. The TB WILL add power, its opens the "gateway" for air to come through in greater volume.

I forgot to add that i will also be adding the ASP crank pulley. Its lighter then stock to that should free up a bit of horse power since its less rotationg weight. Im pretty sure my Varaam will hold me back some since it depends on moving air to make power, so if the car make like 395RWHp ill say 400rwhp since i have the Varaam that holds me back a little.

Did you ever notice that the so called bone stock cars with Dyno numbers in the 370's never respond to bolt-on's like the the 350 to 360 RWHP cars. Maybe because they never had that much HP to begin with. :zboobie:

I have never seen/heard of a 02-04 Zo6 dyno higher than 365rwhp STOCk. Thats just me though. I havent seen any header/pulley/TB/cold air intake/tune only Zo6's dyno 400RWHP so i figure ill try. Even if i dont get to the magical 400RWHP ill still have a monster of a car that will fool people that think a car needs a cam to be fast. There was a post a few days ago about a guy that made 451RWHP with the T Rex cam, its tempting but im pretty sure i wont addd a cam.

I never knew, but thanx! I dont relly on dyno results anyhow, I look for the trap speed in the 1/4, to me its about the best way to tell you gained power :yeadog:

so Rick!! What do you think about my situation, I wanna tune that 10.9:1 air to fuel, but I have to wait a bit for headers and then a tune, or should I go head and get a Predator and tune it now for the vararam and then will the predator tune it again for the header install, thanx

To me it would make sense to get headers and varaam and then tune. Im not sure how your tuner works, but my tuner doesnt charge for retunes if i add something small, but if i add a charger or something major like built motor and FI then he has a small charge. I know that most tuners charge for every retune, regardless of whats added.

It is possible, and I think a few have done it.

Most do not go through the expense of all of the bolt ons.

Add:
Intake (Vararam or TRAP)
Ported TB
FAST Intake
LT headers with no cats / x pipe
catback exhaust (Stingers or GHL)
Pulley (ASP)
Electric Water pump
Dyno tune

All of this *should* easily get you to 400 RWHP "bolt-on" The tuning is probably the most crucial part and will have the most varience. I honestly think 410RWHP is doable.

I dont plan on doing the FAST intake or a cat back exhaust, just the stock TI's. WEll see if i can do it. :jammin:

If you search the archive's there are lots of posts of people claiming more than 370 RWHP bone stock
Here's one of many.

I think 410RWHP is very achievable. My '04 Z06 is currently 398RW and I do not have ALL the bolt-ons.

I did not have a stock dyno but a dyno with JUST the BlackWing was 365RW.

With LG Headers/X-pipe/Hiflow Cats and dyno tune I was at 385RW.

with additional Hi-Flow Air bridge, Air Coupler and Vararam instead of Blackwing, GHL Magnum Catback + redyno/tune yielded 398RW.

I think with additional ported TB/FAST Intake I can be over 400RW.

Your so close. Im sure going cat less would get you to 400rwhp. Hell even switching dyno's might get you there.
