I know on the freeway when shiftin to 5th and 6th gear the reverse is locked out, i just noticed today that while tryin to put car into 6th gear to hush stingers down in front of cops i was able to shift into reverse, is it supposed to be like this?? I was goin like 40mph, or is it supposed to be locked out like at the freeway speeds, i would think so.

Maybe some one knows for sure but I think it is supposed to be locked out above 10 mph or so. See if the owners manual tells you.

6th gear is on the bottom, reverse is on the top. It's gotta be real hard to get reverse when trying for 6th. Did you mean 5th?

at 1mph and above it's supposed to be locked out. i've been rolling in the past and trying to shift it into reverse and i know i couldn't do it until i came to a complete stop. if you did in fact shift into reverse that's a problem.

There is a reverse solenoid that prevents the vehicle from going into reverse at speeds greater than 3 MPH. I could have failed or if someone worked on your car failed to reconnect it. However, it should throw a P0801 reverse lockout solenoid malfunction code. This is a dealer fix.

This is from C4/C5 Specialist

The reverse lockout solenoid will only activate after 3mph in the forward direction. Once activated, you should NOT be able to go into reverse without 2 handed force on the shifter.
The solenoid is engineered to allow heavy force to push the spring plunger out, just in case the solenoid fails in the on position.

I have ground the reverse gear trying for 5th at the top of 4th at 140+ mph on a track several times. So have many other people I've talked to. Under those circumstances, you are shifting pretty fast and pretty hard, and the adrenline is flowing.
