It's time to replace the short block in my 01 Z.{A "friend" borrowed it and now it's knocking like mad and dropped a cylinder!}
Is there any reason not to go with a 6.0L cast iron short block,other than the weight difference?
It would be a factory original 6.0 Truck short block brand new.
Is this a mistake or is it ok? Will I gain anything or lose?
I have a very nice head and cam package that I would re-use.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You also might want to consider the new 6.0L LS2 Block.

All aluminum = 100lbs. weight savings.

Not only is it 100 lbs but it's in the wrong place. Look again at the LS2

Is there a knock sensor solution out there yet?
One of the reasons I went iron, also at the time I had my LS2 block (Dec) the valley pan and timing cover were on national backorder.

So is there a solution out now, since they are becoming more popular?
Andy at A&A tells me you just need to drill and tap the block.
Not really a big deal from what he told me.

So are the internals in a G.M. 6.0L iron ok? Do I need to change anything to make it better? ie:forged pistons, steel crank etc?
