What does the vacuum pump do?
Does it clean my house? ;-)

it sucks air out of the crankcase to improve the ring seal

edit:
"The vacuum pump creates a vacuum in the crankcase to help keep the oil off of the cylinder walls and out of the combustion chambers. This decreases the possibility of detonation caused by oil contamination in the combustion chambers."

Don't forget that vacuum in the crankcase = less windage loss, which, at least on like a 600 horse big block, will make like 30hp.

BBax -- interesting.

I can see vacuum sucking down the piston as it goes down, but working against the piston as it goes up. I'm sure you're right about it improving HP, just interested how this would work mechanically.
