Any details about this abuse management and what it monitors would be appreciated. Will it throw a code. what can the techs download?

I could be wrong, but I have not seen any evidence of this "abuse" feature, on the 01 or the 02 cars. I would seek confirmation from c4c5specialist, maybe posting an "ATTN: c4c5" thread.

IMHO, it does not exist. I raced FUBU's car (02) for many runs a couple weekends ago, and we ran it hard, with severe wheel hop (ZDOG reported same on his 02') and never had the computer intrude even with the extended wheel hop. Both cars in Comp mode.

I read some of the posts where this was a suggestion and I think it was taken literally. I did read Powershifters post about a GM engineer, but no evidence of this......

Again, I could be VERY wrong, but until we have confirmation, I would suggest that any "abuse" feature is non-existant.

JC, I would sugest you read Hib's artical in GMHP magazine. That is the source of all the imformation knowen on the subject. He was quoteing a GM enginer. I have since read one of hib's posts that some what contradicts his quote in the article. Your right knowone knows what the wheel hop algrothim does, thats what all the questions were about but you KNOW the telephone(fourm) game. Grate magazine by the way! Very good reading. Ric

I don't believe the abuse system is engaged in the c/d mode. I hae seen it come into play when you have tc/ah off. I rarely drive with the default system so I do not know if it is present then.

Don, The wheel hop alragarim was reported to engage in all settings, I don't if this is the same as what your calling abuse management . Ric

I can tell you for a fact that when my 02 gets severe wheel hop at the track (never happened on the street) that the computer takes over, reengages the traction control (and it doesn't matter if you are in TCS/AH off or Competitive Mode - happens regardless) AND it shuts off the fuel - damn near puts me in the windshield. This happens at burnout, as well as the 1-2 and 2-3 shift if I am getting on it hard. The car IS NOT twistind sideways, just hopping up and down like a friggin bunny rabbit :(

It would seem that easier shifts and launching is the only real solution without changing the suspension - I am considering adjustable shocks to see if that helps.

There was a reply to my post recently (wheel hop continued) that explained when the abuse feature takes over.

Hopefully C4C5 specialist can give a more technical answer, I can only say what is happening to me. I am also interested in an answer to if the computer stores a code to tell them that the "feature"was activated.

OK here ia the quote from Hib artical in GM High-Tech Performance. Jan 2002. Volume 8, no.1 The quote is by John Juriga, Assistant Chief
Engineer for Gen III Passenger Car Engines.
"The Power Hop algorithm is used on manual transmission Corvettes only. If TCS(traction control system)is turned off,it is possible to get the tires to break loose and have axle hop, or oscillate, during hard launches. To remedy this, the TCS module requests a torque reduction from the ECM, even though TCS has been turned off by the driever, For Power HOP, spark and/or fule(reductions are used rather than throttle to improve response time. This request is calibrated so wheel hop can be reduced as much as possible without compromising vehicle performance. The TCS module requests just enough torque reduction for just long enough to get the axle back on the ground during these launch events" Hay what do I know sounds like launch controle to me. A VERY GOOD THING as far as I am concerned, can't waite to try it out. Ric

I have seen this happen with tc/ah off but not in c/d which is where my car is set most of the time. That's one of the reasons I like the c/d mode. The only time I do not use c/d is when the road is wet. I appreciate the system when conditions call for it. However, when I want to "drive" the car, I don't want the system to get in the way, no matter no how.

2001Z06, Have you ever seen anything published that sayes c/d has any engine control? I was under the impresion that it was able to apply brake/s to regain control. Ric

Z06LS6, What do you think 100k-1000k lines of code in the pcm? If you don't know where it is in there how long to find it?

Powershifter.........
Well, discussed this for a while tonight with a well known Vette guru..........
He claims this system is built into the '01's as well.................
I assume, since the '01's don't make quite the power of the '01's.......that they do not engage as often.........

Power Hop Algrat acording to GM is only on 02's, the 01 has everything else. If you are interested enough maybe you can pose the question to GM Power Train? The fact is the gurus have opinion, but GM knows. Personaly I will care more if the system does bad things to me at the track, right now it seems to be helpfull, but I won't know till I make some hard launches at the track. I don't try to fix or change things till I have a problem.KISS Ric

I'm sure GM knows... wheelhop was never the fast way around a track or down a strip.
