Adding Sidewinder, any other cheap mods?

I'm putting on a Halltech sidewinder soon...any other good "cheap" mods to start with? Throttle body make any difference? MAF ends? GMS MAF?

Junkie,

As far as the ported and polished throttle body goes, Katech engines told me that there is absolutely no HP gain on a stock engine. With a head and cam package, you can only expect a 5 HP increase with the ported and polished throttle body. They have done extensive dyno testing in their top notch facility. So save your money.
One relatively inexpensive item I am looking at is one of the tstat/fan control kits to reduce water temps. I did this in my other corvettes, and it does make a difference. I have noticed several posts from people who have Z06's running in the 220 - 230 range. IMO, this is way too hot! As in my previous cars, I would prefer to see 180-190, definitely adds a bit of power, and reduces underhood temps somewhat - which is easier on belts, hoses, electronics...
As Frank has said there is no gain from a ported TB, I have tested this on my car.
Do a TB by-pass as this reduces the air temp entering the intake.
You might try computer programming as this will set the fans to come on when you want and optimize your performance. Expect 6-10 rwhp.
Stay away from the MAF ends, you will see a gain when they are first installed but as the computer relearns I have seen cars lose hp.
FRCTom,
I purchased a 172/178 TSAT/Fan Controller combo from exit28 but have yet to install it. Can I simply have the computer reprogrammed to set the fans to come on at 190 and use the stock TSAT. If so, where I can have the computer reprogrammed. Thanks!
MARZ06,
Yes, I have mine set to come on at 190.
You still want to use the 178 stat though.
Mine was programmed by http://www.z-industries.com
through http://www.corvetteconcepts.com .
I am not sure if Z-Industries deals direct.
There are some people using the powerloader by TTS that I believe lets you set the fan motors also. Carl has one I think.

I was looking at the TB by-pass. Why does GM run it through the TB anyway? any harm done doing the bypass?

Any harm done running the engine cooler, or was that just for emissions?
Thanks FRCTom. The unit I bought is actually a combo, meaning that there is a temp sensor built onto the TSAT. The new wiring harness plugs onto it aand is set at 190 degrees. Guess I'll install it since it is paid for. Thanks again.

What did you have to pay for the combo? Will the warantee be jeapordized by installing the TStat/controller?
I paid $185 including shipping from Exit28. As for the warranty....let me say that if my car overheats and blows up, I will put the stock TSAT back in before taking it to the dealer. I would also remove the Halltech and B&M if something that serious happened.
