Finally warmed up a bit so I decided to drive my baby to the office. I reached the parking lot and turned to the right and then I heard this metal on metal type of sound coming from the rear end. Like bad bearings or gears not meshing (only 7,600 miles). Very strange, and only happens when I turn to the right.

So, off to the dealer. But anyway...anyone have a similar type problem/experience?

Have you changed the diff oil???

If so, did you use synthetic, and a friction modifier??

Changed to Synthetic about 200 miles before the noise. No friction modifier. When the shop was checking the rear, we changed the fluid again. Now the noise have become intermitent. ???

If the lube you used din't have the friction modifier package, you need to add one. Some do....some don't.

Fortunately, haven't had that problem...but...I would guess (from past experience on my '86) that it's the lack of differential fluid modifier. It's a most important additive. Personally, I wouldn't leave home without it!

Nothing to lose if you add it now. See what happens. It certainly can't do any harm. Good luck.
