Are the gauges supposed to sweep at startup?

In the Cobra that would have meant the battery had been disconnected and the computer had reset.

Everytime I start the Z the gauges all sweep left to right. Is that supposed to happen?

Mine does exactly the same thing and I have wondered about it. Does anyone know the answer?

For aircraft, guages either do this automatically or come with a test button to make them do it. It's about the only way for a pilot to verify that the guage is working.

I don't think this does anything for "calibration", though. It's just GM's way of giving us all a little more "wow factor", while at the same time letting you know your guages are working. It's not like it costs them anything more to make the guages do that. Software (as any of us in the Software business know all too well) is free!

The sweeping cursor block that paints out "Corvette by Chevrolet" (or whatever it is that it says) on the DIC at startup yet is another handy tool in the same vein. Since the cursor uses all the pixels in a character position, watching it sweep the entire DIC also helps you verify that all the pixels in the DIC are live.
