Man the ZO6 rips on autocrossing!

Took her out for the first time and the car handles like it was on rails!!
My bone stock ZO6 was less than a second behind the fastest car with race tires, and a whole host of mods.

If I put stickys on the car I'll be unstopable!!

5 hours later and still smiling /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I am happy you enjoyed your Auto X experience. It is really amazing how well the car handles on street tires on a auto X track. Still keep in mind that they will not violate the laws of physics. At an event this week, I came thru the finish way too fast and provided the spectators with a 30 yard slide. Still trying to learn the limits.

Glad to hear that. A friend of mine (who happens to be autocross director for an SCCA club in this area) says my Z must race in the prepared class. I say BS, the car is basically stock.

No way can I run in stock. They fear the Z that much. My driving skills not with standing. Running in prepared against full race prepped cars seems a bit unfair.

Dennis,

I could say the same thing running in Super Stock complaining about your 'stock' car with modified air intake.. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

It's just the rules, man.. Certain things you can modify and still run stock.. I'd suggest getting yourself a copy of the Solo II rulebook, and start working your way down the list (after you replace your stock air intake.. Heheh)

Your right. The rules are the rules. But heck, even if I put the stock filter and air box back on, I still have to run in modified. Go figure! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

You have got to watch those rules. I do SCCA for the most part and in our local region we will let it go with some mods if you are staring out. But, if you go to SCCA Divisional or National events and do well, you will get protested.

By the way, the KN filter is legal in stock.

I think the "modified air box" is the issue..

If your car is truly stock - you CAN run stock - in the same class right along side the 'normal' C5's..

Spend the $20-$30 or so and get a rulebook.. Take it with you. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I wish that were ture. He tells me that their club is making all Z06s run in prepared, stock or not. Can they do this, (make their own local rules)?

If their race is not sanctioned, maybe they can, I am at a loss to explain why. My "buddy" said that they consider the Z06 a race prepared car, from the factory. Well that is my definition of the word "stock", ie. "as delivered from the factory".

Remember the original Z06s? They were essentially factory race cars for their day. That is the concept of the new Z06 we all drive and love. Right??? Or am I missing something? /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif

Does it realy matter what class they put you in? My experience with Z06s at AutoX events has been that they beat Everyone!

You might try running with other groups too. I've found the SCCA somewhat Corvette unfriendly. They shifted the Corvette out of A Stock a few years ago and chased out the Corvettes. Now we're in super stock. After years of performance increases, the Corvette is finally competetive in this class. Look for them to move the Corvette again.
They've also screwed the Corvette in racing. Look where our cars are currently. Behind an NSX, Porsche, and a dam 4wheel drive Audi. Funny how SCCA keeps the rules so the Corvette is not quite able to win!!!! I've got more, but I'll stop here.

I've found the Porsche club fun to run with. They do big, wide open, courses. Sometimes hit 3rd gear. The SCCA courses up this way are more for a Neon or Honda.
Had a long talk with one of our C5R drivers and we agreed on all of these points.

SCCA's courses around here are parking lot cone crap. Join the NCCC and run against other Vettes on FAST courses. Most NCCC courses are on road courses, ovals, and driver training facilities (mini-road courses). More road, less cones!
