Talked to Mike at B and B today. We will be receiving the FIRST production set of Z06 headers early next week.

We have been awaiting their arrival since we were told about them weeks ago and placed our orders. A non-cat removal header that is both lighter and more powerful than the current configuration on the Z06... A winner to say the least

Here is some info from Mike at B&B from sometime back...

--------------------------------------------
Richard, just a quick note to update you on our progress. Of our many
attempts to beat the OEM manifolds on the Z06, we've made a set of step (1
5/8 " at the flange that step up to 1 3/4") with two cylinders merging into
a 2 1/4" collector then the two 2 1/4" collectors merging into a single 2
1/2" collector. In plain words, a step tri Y header or in even plainer
language, a sprint car header for a ZO6. The sucker works!! On a Z06, it
makes 8 hp starting at 1200 RPM and steadily progresses to 13-14-15. Torque
increases are +6 at 1200 and again steady progression to 14-15-16. This is
on a Z06, THE KING of the Generals exhaust. We are searching for an LS-1 to
test and we all feel the numbers on a LS-1 will approach 20. We are now
totally convinced that a 2000 header, fitted to a 2001, is definitely the
wrong way to go. CARB approval has been requested, normally a slow process that we
are hoping to expedite. Production should
start in about 4 weeks .

Have a good day---Mike R.

These guys are wroking hard to find some more power with a reduction in weight...

So will these eliminate the need for welding, RG?

Dennis, NVMYC5,

More from Mike at B&B:

Weight of the OEM cast manifolds= 31 pounds, B&B headers=15 pounds. All
direct bolt on, no cat removal, no cutting, no welding. Some of these guys
who are removing cats probably know it but could face a harsh reality one of these days.
Fines are BIG, but worse than that, we know of several instances where at
trade in time, or lease return time, the vehicle was not accepted until
returned to emissions compliant.

Mike

RG:

Now you are talking! Less weight, and easier install (something a guy could readily do on his own). Keep us posted on price and availability please.

Dennis,

Will keep you up to speed on our testing. Can't post the price though. JC has set up guidelines here that I will need to follow.

You can shoot me an email when I come back with results etc..and we can talk about that then.

Sounds great!

Sooooo, when will they be legal for CA.

Now ,if they would just make them in Titanium....

P.S. What is the weight loss if any, over the cast iron crap.

I just love the idea of making the Z06 even lighter..

Weighing in:

Posing for the camera:

Down the barrel...not that easy to focus this morning:

The scale is one pound off on start(can't get it zeroed-probably all the abuse it takes shipping stuff day after day
) so subtract one pound to get 16 pounds combined.

Testing on the RATIII will be coming soon and we will post the true dyno results given to us by Speedworks in Lewisville, TX.

Another great product from the folks at B&B Fabrication.

If you have an questions please post here or email me.

Take care,

RG

RG,
Thanks for the pics. Nice looking headers. I can't wait to see the dyno numbers.

We had the install done today followed by a dyno run or two as well as the before testing for the baseline to get the gain difference.

Took about 1 and 40 minutes for install with 2 guys, Keith and Dan, who are tops! They normally would estimate one man at 3 hours labor at somewhere around $65 per hour.

They did weigh half as much as the stock Z06 manifolds and they did produce gains

11.6 RWHP at 5500
11.4 RWTQ at 5700

and

9.9 rwhp at peak
8.6 rwtq at peak

Here is a link to the test results.

No cutting no welding no cat removal.

We will have stock in about 10 days if anyone is interested
