If a car sits for awhile and you check the oil it might look dark. If you run the motor and get it hot it will look much lighter in color and cleaner looking. After a motor is warm isnt that the way too see how clean the oil is?

You can't really tell much by the color. You need an analysis for that.

Some oils are darker than others, and some get darker with use than others. Some people think clean or light colored oil is a sign of a clean engine. However if the oil is doing its job the additives in the oil cause the contaminates to stay in suspension in the oil giving it a darker color. Then the contaminates are drained away when the oil is changed. If the oil stays nice and clean looking it is leaving the contaminates inside the engine.

Mobil 1 seems to start to darken fairly soon which is a sign it is doing its job. :yeadog:

Send it out and have it checked is the best way.
