Blackwing or Zip-Tie?

3377 Views 15 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  stevep1794
I have a Blackwing on my ZO6 right now and am considering going to stock but don't want to lose alot of horse power. I have heard of good gains with the Zip-Tie Mod but is it really all that good? It looks like you could get alot of dirt sucked in the engine that way. What can I expect if I go back to completely stock(minus the paper filter) and use a K&N or a Air Hog? Thoughts/Comments? Thanks!:thumb:

i have a stock lid-that i cut the opening about 4"X8" with a
K & N :usa: and it works great-not sure on hp gains, but wcc sells them for around $70 so you can keep your stock one..
I'm not sure why you think the zip tie mod would get more dirt in the filter than the stock set up, blackwing or similar. They all take air from the same location.

My concern with K&N, air hog or similar low restriction filters is do they filter as well? It would seem that they will let more dirt in than a stock filter. Until I have information to the contrary I would prefer to keep a fresh stock filter in my car.

If you are interested I am working on an idea to convert the stock air filter box into a cold air intake. It would use the stock filter or any similar replacement filter like K&N etc.

had my k & N on for 50k miles-and haven't had a problem, i don't drive it "off road" or in a lot of rain
Have used K&N on the Z from day one and 8000 miles later,no problems or codes
You have the Blackwing!
WTF, you need money or what?? :pp:
Enlighten me as to the reason!!
This thread makes NO sense :-?

Ken
After reviewing many thread discussions about intakes for the Z06 I have concluded none provide much improvement to be worth the cost, over the Z06 OEM setup. If it were the LS1 engine I would agree there are great gains to be made but not for the Z06.

No, I have plenty of money! I am considering putting the car back to stock because I want to! I am asking the HP difference between the Blackwing and the Zip-Tie Mod that I can expect to loose/gain by making the switch? Read the post a little slower next time!

We got .10 and 1 mph more with the zip-tie mod over the Blackwing on the same day at the track.

Plus we where throwing lean codes with the Blackwing. We never threw a code with the Zip-Tie.

zip tie is better in every way.
Hmm...I have a blackwing and I've never thrown a code that would be related to the air intake. Sorry...I've never used the zip tie mod so...I can't comment on how well it works.
What is the Zip tie-mod??? Please explain or send me somewhere to investigate this mod?

Three words: Check my sig! :jammin:

The only intakes I would buy over doing the zip-tie mod would be the MTI ram air or the BPP Vortex. But, for the money you can't beat using a pair of zip ties.
:z:
Pyle, if you want to put it back to stock, then just do it. There isn't enough difference in hp between the two to think twice about it or inquire. Stock is stock. If you want a good CAI that makes a difference, get the Vararam. :thumb:

Bob :D
Thanks Kat.... I must smoking too much of this Iraqi hash to figure it out by reading...
