Anyone else in Z06 land heard the rumor of the LS6 engine, changing to LS7? Also HUD is about set in concrete to be an option on the Z06 for '02! Lastly,as we all have read to date...the HP will be "officially"..405 .

Along with that bit of news tidbit...a suggestion was turned over to David Hill to set up as an option, the interiors be color matched with body colors(ie...Yellow/Black with the MY color,etc.....)Anxious to see if that's set into play!! Lastly, the Rear Brake Ducts...will be Engineered into the body panels versus setting on top the panels....All these mentionables were given to me by a very good source and am sworn to secrecy as to where it has originated from..

My reply below.

I can tell you that the engine will not be rebadged.
The LS7 was an experimental engine of which only about 8 were built, and never installed into a car. However, after the LS7 project was scrapped, some people broke into GM and stole one. I "think" it was a hot alum head big block of some sort.

On the brake duct thing, I think engineering costs would be too great as the body would have ot protrude enough to get air, this would be a major stylistic change. Plus the fact that our ducts are getting torn up by gravel now, what would happen to a painted body part...

The HUD? No way...GM has already spent money for our thinner glass, and as we know the HUD requires a coated glass...Plus, adding weight? Doubt it, if anything they will REDUCE weight.

I think you're source is misinformed or I'll be really suprised.

Thoughts?

JC

JC,

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head, but I do expect a horsie increase of 20 and probably different wheels. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect much else to change.

I agree, but will there be a real increase or will it be a marketing paper shuffle?

IE, we're dyno'ing at 405 now....will we dyno at 425? That would be nice...Maybe they are slapping TRIC's on the 2002's

Hmm, a cam change to possibly bring the torque curve up to the same level as the LS1 on the low end.....

I have heard that a new blue exterior color will be released in 2002...Don't know if it will be available on the Z06 though....we'll see.

I doubt the model will change from the Z06. The molds and emblems are probably in abundance, but the engine will probably take on a new designation. Guessing it will retro the older 405 HP Corvette engines (not the ZR1).

405 HP should be the ticket, but I heard 20 at the rear wheels. Who cares what the ratings are as long as we hit the high 11s with the TRIC SideWinder.

Halltech is coming out with a 100% carbon fiber TRIC SideWinder with as much RWHP as the S-type in March; time will tell.

The Head Up Display is bound to be an option:

A race car that you must look down at the gauge display???. Seat bolsters-nah!

Colors- some new, some old.

Rear brake venting: integrated for sure. This aint no Mustang "paste on louver car"

Tires: Same Wheels: Awesome!

Ordered one: Deposit two months ago. Hoping to get it at the museum the first day of production.

ZL6? Hummmm

I do think I saw next years Vette wheels and they were 7 spoke wheels and looked a little like the 5 spoke in design.

I know you guys probably already know this, but there is NOT an LS6 listed for 2002.

I have been looking and looking, every day... LS1 for the 2002 Y car. LS6 not even mentioned...

But hey, it's only 20 FEB.

We wont know any true facts until the car is released, regardless of the many people who claim to have inside info.
