C5 Z06 cam choice

Hello all, I have just discovered that my 2002 Z06 is in the "most at risk" category for likelihood of failing springs.

So I figured as long as I have the engine apart might as well throw a cam in there.

Like everyone, I want the choppy sound. Horsepower numbers aren't important to me (blasphemy). What is important is that there is no low RPM bucking and stalling as it is highway driven with a couple of drag passes and HPDE's per year. Car is stock.

My tuner recommends a stage III TSP or BTR cam, and says driveability is like stock after the car warms up.

I'm wondering if Stage II would be more fit for my mostly street-driven needs.

I am using search tool as fast as I can for answers, but figured I would post this also.

Thanks alot

I have my 02 Z06 a little more than 2 years now. After buying it I joined a few forums and watched A LOT of YouTube videos on all different aspects of the car and what to keep my eyes on. I ran a scope down the oil filler tube and sure enough, I had the yellow valve springs. Watched some great videos on how to remove and replace the springs, stem seals, etc. If you have even low/mid level wrenching experience it’s a VERY straight forward job. I also installed a rocker trunion kit too. Did everything in my driveway however I do have a 60 gallon air compressor that makes it much easier.
My main point is that you don’t HAVE to take the whole top end off and ‘may as well put a cam in’.
If you want any help or suggestions/advice let me know.

If you have springs that are likely to fail I don't know why you'd want to put a camshaft in it. That would only add to the stress on the springs. Unless you're talking about putting a camshaft and spring package in it.?? Regardless if you're looking for a cam that's good for low end torque and nice street drivability it doesn't lump like that. The lumping sound comes from lots of overlap and large duration with a tight lobe spread. All of those things contribute to high RPM use. That's why that sound is associated with race cars to everyone in the world. If you want to cam that sounds lumpy it's built for high RPM if it's built for lower PM it doesn't sound lumpy. I'm a drag racer been drag racing since before I had a driver's license. So I'm somewhat biased. I just bought a Texas Speed torquer V4. And I think it's too small. Good luck.
..... Don't be a wuss. Get a big monster cam that sounds awesome. And live with the somewhat slight inconvenience that it creates as a cost of the oooh and aaaah that you'll receive from everybody around you
