How cool to have the history so well documented! Got a question, though: looks like you had a black roof at one time, but perhaps didn't like it and went back to stock roof?

Yeay, the black roof was done in Plastidip - I just thought it was a simple way to test the waters before committing to painting. At the time I was chastised by some purists over at the Corvette Forum for doing it. Then a year later PlastiDip become mainstream.

At some point I got tired of the heat retention and peeled it off.

I am about to install C6 ZR1 brakes to fill the new wheels - but may opt for 2 piece iron rotors rather than the carbon ceramics to have a better pad choice.

Very! But early days are certainly relative... Early days for the Z = Dec 2002, but early days for the '66 = Apr 1972 😃 Sp0t and little buddy.jpg

Nice, Another long term owner. I hope the 66 still gets lots of road time.
The way I see it I have another 45 years, God willing and me able, to enjoy the Z :)
Am I being over ambitious wanting to still drive this car when I am 95 years old?

I am confident the C8 is going to be a fantastic car, despite budget and accountants holding the engineers up - and now that the platform is a mid rear all bets are off with regard to the Corvette Racing Program..... and the C8 Z06/Z07/ZR1 etc should be hyper car style performance missiles.

But..... I haven't even got over the C7 tail lights yet LOL.:ROFLMAO::LOL: I loved the Corvette for the performance packaging despite the supposedly inherent disadvantage of the mid front layout.

The C5R dominating from day 1 and the C6 even out lasting Ferrari's front engine racing program and the C7R program delivering the good. Its an end of an era and I am not sure I am fully into the new era. I have never been excited by a mid rear layout car but I can never say never - who knows if I will ever cross over to the dark side :devilish::LOL:

And the crazy insane gushing over the C8 by people who 2 years ago wouldn't even acknowledge the Corvette was a real car is something else  - so yeah wait till the dust has settled, prices are firmed up and maybe even year one issues are sorted out.

I just hope that the new C8 doesn't become the new designer type of car where everyone has to have one, as in, new flavor of the month. Where were you enthusiasts before all the hype?

I think it will be - at least in year 1. Look at al the YouTube stars rushing to buy the base model on day 1 just to have the car for content and viewership.
This may mean a lot of crazy used deals when they dump them after a year. LOL
