Just another reason to be able to pull your own codes and trace down the problem. Just another reason to let all the helpful folks on the forums offer their help. Just another reason to have a multimeter and know how to use one. Just another reason to....

The key feature of the CAGS Defeat assembly is the resistor which tricks the computer into thinking the circuit is still connected to the tranny solenoid. If the dealer is correct that the Defeat is the reason the car is throwing-up codes, than the CAGS assembly must have gone bad internally or at the harness connection so that the resistor is no longer electrically connected to the rest of the computer circuit. I have a hard time believing there is any need for us to panic and remove these devices.

As a matter of interest, I installed mine at the first oil change at 600 miles back in Nov. I now have over 1900 miles with no problems. Before I installed the Defeat, the car never once locked me out of second gear even though the panel skip shift indicator light would occasionally come on during light accels during my breaking period. My friend, Z.06, drove his for the first time yesterday at the dealership to gas it up and the skip shift aggravated him twice by activating!!
Go figure.

[hello again where did you order this from and what is the cost. I did it on the zr1 but i really can't remember[problem with turning 50] thanx Dennis
Had my CAGS-defeat installed the day after delivery (Sept).....unit is from LAPD....works fine for me. Many others with same unit on Z06 have no problems. Probably a defective unit.

Regarding driving with the stock skip-shift, it can be downright dangerous in heavy/slow City traffic, especially at left-turns onto a major thoroughfare, with a lineup at the green light to turn left. You can inadvertently end up in fourth gear and have to goose it or get t-boned....not a pleasant feeling in 4th gear, needing immediate acceleration. And, it's hard to rev at 3000 at 2 miles an hour!

If you live on the thruway, then that's all academic, of course.

I have the cag defeat out of my '99 FRC in my Z06, no problems. I did notice on the swap that the capsule encasing the resistor had melted and the resistor looked like it had gottten hot. When it fails I'll just buy another. I HATE the CAGS system!

I just leave the car in first gear until I'm done making the turn. The LS-6 has a 6500 rpm redline. Use it!
