I have an extra set of 17X9 Camaro SS wheels and I'm planning on getting some good water-evacuating tires for rainy weather only. I have heard that our Supercar tires are actually dangerous in the wet and I was wondering if anyone has tried these tires on the Z06. Does active handling still work?

Do the 9x17" Camaro SS wheels when mounted on the Z06 have correct offset to align properly with the outside edge of wheel wells? Does a 17" wheel look funny, ie. disproportionately small, in place of the 18 inchers on the rear? Any interference with the brake calibers?

Hi there,
Although there could be a slight difference in the way the speedo reads, you should be fine.
My big concern is predictability, as the car is going to handle differently because of it. SC tires are very good in the rain, but the width of the tires make them susceptable to hydroplaning.
Best to you, c4c5

I'll try mounting the SS wheels and see what they look like. I wasn't too concerned about looks, otherwise I wouldn't put different wheels on the car. I wanted to get the best wet traction tires for my car during the (short) rainy season.

Another reason to switch to the 17X9s is to reduce the wear on our ridiculously expensive SC tires. Yes, they are supposed to be great on dry pavement, but I would not want to drive aggressively in the wet anyway. Changing to different tires that hendle better in the wet would be ideal.

Please tinker all you want folks but those expensive tires are one of, no in many instances, they are THE most important reason why our Z's perform at a WORLD class level. Skid pad, Drag strip, track, braking, overall handling, etc. It will be my pleasure to replace these tires because that will mean I am not leaving my Z in a garage and only visiting it when I crave the smell of Zaino.

These tires alone at Bragg-Smith make for a 3-4 second difference in track times over a standard C-5. Mine do fine in the rain and C4C5 is right it is their world class width that is the chief factor........ I want my best tread on at all times whenever I get the urge to add 5 more MPH to that little hair pin curve or the high speed sweeper the city so graciously built between my work and my way home.
