I thought someone would have posted this by now, but I don't see it.
In the new issue of Car and Driver there is a first drive report on the 02 Z06. A couple more pictures that seem to show how different the electron blue looks in each light setting. Why do I say this?? Simply because it looks different in every picture. I still like it.
Other than that, it wasn't what I would call the most complimentary article. The author seemed pretty peeved at the delay on introducing all the improvements and held it against the car from the beginning. By that is just my read of it.
The most important part is more pics of my new car.

The dealer says he was putting in the order yesterday. I am going to give him a check tomorrow. I will soon join the club. I think I will have the only one here in College Station. If there is someone else out there, let me know.

I hold in my hands the August issue of Car and Driver. The cover pic (on my issue) is asking if the Corvette is still king. But that is not the article. That is for a ragtop shootout with BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes.
The top of the magazine says "2002 First Drives: 405-hp Corvette Z06, Mini Cooper!"

Why I get the August issue in June, I have never figured it out. But I have it.

why should a co. put all their eggs out there on first introduction? i would think that their would not be many car co. around today if they did that. gm has done a super juob with the c-5. where can you get a balanced car like the z06 with out standing performance for the price?

Quotes from Car&Driver August 2001.
About the listed times: "Considering we've had trouble slipping 460-hp Vipers under the four-second mark and that a Z06 has never hit 60 in less than 4.3 seconds by out hands or reached 1320 feet in less than 12.7 seconds, it's possible we won't be able to substantiate these claims."

Here is another good one. "The fact that the Corvette 5.5 [what the author calls the new vette, because he dubbed it early "the fifth opportunity in five years to unload valuable pesos on the latest and greatest Corvette."] may be only slightly faster than the 5.4 will be of little comfort to 2001 Z06 owners, whose identity will soon be made obvious to everyone by the new fender badges with 'Z06 405 HP' written on them. True, GM isn't offering any free upgrades, but if you really bitch, perhaps it'll send you two of those."

Most of the rest of a technical nature not of the quality of Hib's article. The pics are pretty good though. Shows another shade of the blue. Looks like it will be many colors.

I still do not see what the big deal is on the '02 Z06... it is standard practice for a new product to be better than the "old" product...

Remember this... the Z06 is made for RoadRacing, the good 1/4 mile times are just an effect of making a good roadracing car.

When you remember what the car is for, and if you got it for that, you will realize that the improvements are not a issue.... I will not fear any '02 Z06 when I see one on the track... and neither should you.

I have never lost to a car, only a driver.

Looks like C/D is trying to hint that GM's performance claims are exaggerated! Maybe if they followed GM's documented testing procedure, their numbers wouldn't be so dismal!
