I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mr. Heston this past Saturday (7/7/01) in the Seattle area. He was here in my part of the woods to attend the Annual NRA National Gun Collectors Show, and as I am a director of the sponsoring organization (the Washington Arms Collectors: founded in 1952, 18,000 members!), I got to spend some time with "Ben-Hur" at both the show and at 2 functions afterward.
I first "met" Charlton Heston in L.A. in 1970. He was in the same store I was, and asked me a question (thinking I worked there) about the location of a certain item. I told him I didn't work there, but I would help him find the item. We happened to leave the store at the same time and walked to the parking lot in back together. His car was a 1971 454 Silver Coupe. I told him how much I LIKED his car. He was nice and complimented me on mine .('67 Firebird 400 Convert./4-speed-red,black,black)
Soooo... on this past Saturday (with everyone wanting to talk to him) I asked him about the silver big block, and he just replied that: "I've had many Corvettes" ...and he said it in that voice that is so recognizable... and with a big smile on his face. Enough said. Made my day.
