Could I get a thumb nail intro into the column lock, its' function and weakness.

Short thumbnail,

Steering locks and must be flatbedded to dlr. GM has said was fixed several times although it keeps popping up ??. Fix is a bypass. This affects man trans c-5's......

It can also lock in the open position. :(

Black Magic just had the recall on his '99 Vert a few months ago, and he had the column lock last week in the open position.

Has this been a reported problem on 01/02 Z06's????

Do any Forum vendors offer a fix/bypass???

That would kinda blow to have that happen!!

Actually FUBU had it happen to him on his '02 Z06 while I was visiting him in Florida. Luckily we were able to free it up. :)

Is this bypassable on the '02s ??

I've looked and all the "bypasses" seem to say up to 01 only.

As soon as my Z rolls off the transporter, it's off to my lift
for a CAGS disabler, V1, Phone Install, and Column Lock bypass.

(Maybe Euro front lights too, if I get them in time)

BTW, where are the safest places to put the pads from a
2 post-asymmetrical lift under a C5?

I installed the bypass kit on my 02 with no problems. Been running great for several months now.
The kit came with a cigarette lighter adapter to temporarily power the lock and move it to the disengaged position before installing the bypass. I couldn't get that to work, so per the instructions, I just powered the car up, disengaged the lock, then disconnected it. This got me a fault code which was easily cleared, also per the instructions, by removing a designated fuse in the fuse box.
All in all, it took less than an hour to install this. Much piece of mind for me.

Very interesting as I was told the bypass unit would not work on the 2002's. I took the bypass off the '98 before selling it, guess I better go ahead and try to see if it will work on the 2002 Z06.
