Cry & Drivel magazine has a small shootout between the 2002 Z06 (Yellow!) and a 911 Turbo. Here are the results:
Vette 911
0-60 4.4 4.5
0-100 9.8 10.1
1/4 12.7 12.9

Interesting note: The drivers of the cars were chosen by their manufacturers. Chevy chose John Heinricy and Porche chose Hurley Haywood. This is the September 2001 issue.

Oh yeah, and on the same day they also tested Lingenfelter's 650 HP C5 and its 1/4 mile time was 12.1 seconds.

those times seem a little slow for both cars. where there any comments about the times in the article...

Did you already get your sept. issue? I don't get my C&D til everyone else does(or so it seems!!)
What were the trap speeds on the cars?

The LPE only ran 12.1? HUH?

Yeah mine came in the mail today.
Trap speeds: Vette = 114mph
911 = 112

Lingenfelter car's trap was 128mph

What about handling numbers - lateral g and emergency lane change manoever? Was the 911 turbo a 6speed or the tiptronic? The numbers for both cars look like they were generated on a race track prepped for the winter Olympics!!!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif What gives?

Could someone please post all relevant test data or scan the article better yet?

Its not a full article..it was one of those quickie afterthought type of articles that Car& Drivel loves to put out.

That 1/4 time for the 911 seems a little off... MT was getting 11.90s out of one. 0-60 is off too...

Although they both seem like slow times, I'm going to guess the track/weather was a factor. The bottom line is head to head, the Vette won. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif And that is a great way to test these cars. Let the factory choose their own driver. Hard to complain about C/D's drivers now!!

I'm beginning to think that all those guys that traded their 2001s for 2002s really wasted their money, unless they did it for the color blue or HUD of course. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif The 2002 is no faster than the 2001. That is the second test confirming this. I didn't really think there would be a difference.

Don't get me wrong--- I am buying a 2002 Z06 but i work for a dealership that sells all high end cars and have driven both cars. The Z06 is FAST but the TURBO is MUCH FASTER. The fastest Z06 test i have seen is 12.4 @116MPH the TURBO is 11.9 @121MPH. The Z06 has 405HP and 400FT. The TURBO has all wheele drive and 415HP and 415FT. The Z06 is lighter but not by much. Bottom line is the Z06 is the BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK PERIOD!!! Mombo P.S. here is a link to my dealership if anybody is interested. http://www.championmotorgroup.com/

The '02 Z06 actually has a slightly better power-to-weight ratio than the 911TT, 7.7 lb/hp compared to 8.18 lb/hp for the 3395 lb Porsche. AWD gives the turbo a terrific advantage at launch, but also increases parasitic losses and drag once in motion. The best documented test was a 11.9 ET at 116 mph (MT 11/00); while the ET is definitely quicker the trap speed should be comparable to the '02 Z.
