Remove the nob & get at it w/ a hack saw. Should get thru it in 5 minutes. I was able to just rescrew the nob w/ out rethreading it. Place a plastic bag over the shifter before you cut so you don't make a mess.
I used a cordless reciprocating saw on mine, and got a 9/16x18 nut and screwed it down on the stalk as far as I wanted to shorten it. (3/4") It helped me make a nice straight cut. And take Dr. Ron's advice, the plastic bag is a
MUST! HTH
When you cut down the stock stick's threads, you move your shift knob down the stick toward the WIDE part of the stick. The top opening for the shifter boot is only wide enough to fit around the NARROW top section of the stick. When you screw your shift knob (or MOST shift knobs, anyway) down on the shortened stick, you'll be sandwiching the top of your shifter boot between the bottom of the knob and the wide top part of the stick, stretching out the opening of the boot. This will make for a different feel at the bottom of your knob.
This is perfectly fine for some folks, and unacceptable to others.
Just wanted to give you more info to consider before going about this mod.
