Depreciation-less Alternative: How Many Will Trade '01 Badge for an '02

1525 Views 22 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Z06Scott
Yeah, its something a ricer would do, but I am considering it. Sure is a cheap alternative and unless you tell, no one will know. Given that the '01 Z06 is already dynoing at 405 and you throw on a couple of mods and you are definitely there, how many will be putting the new badge on your car?

JMHO...I would never do that!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Like I said on the other Forum. I may be getting the '01 badge put on my '02. Not to try to fool people, but because I think the '01 badge looks alot better, IMO....

I will probably replace my 02' badges with 01's as well if I put the 427 in this car, do not want people thinking I "only" have 405 hp. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Isn't the only difference the stamping of the "405 hp" into the 2001 badge?

I'm going to get a set, also some lifts for my shoes and a rolled up sock to put in my pants. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif
Stay real, no one likes a poser. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif
There is a '00 Red FRC I have to look at everyday on my way to work with front screens, brake ducts, and Z06 badges.
Makes me fucking sick. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_evil.gif

Carl,

I'm with you, "4 2 7" emblems (with the appropriate LPE work) are all that's going into this baby.

Maybe we can all stamp our actual hp output on our own emblem and update it as we make improvements. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I wouldn't do it. Remember an 01 Z06 is a
formidable sports car at it current rating.
Driving skill is more important than the
small increase in power.
BTW I have already been to a show where I
was parked next to a counterfeit Z06. It
was good enough to fool 9/10ths of the vette
owners there. It was a wrecked 99 and the
only way to tell was to look inside the car
(wrong seats and instrument panel). The
VIN number would also be a telltale.
Beware!

I am sure Design Specialties could make something real nice. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

I agree with the posts here. I would be embarrassed to make myself look like something I am not. There is no shame to be the original (first) Z06 of the MODERN ERA (for those of you who want to remind me of our '63 namesake). No one is going to notice the 405 HP anyway on the emblem. Frankly, over the 8 months of ownership, I can not say that the general public I see on the streets have particularly noticed how special my car is. I even have a rear license plate proclaiming my Z06-ness. My first car was a '67 Camaro and I thought I would buy a SS gas cap for the rear to dress it up and then I would get embarrassed that I would attempt to be something I was not. Be proud with your '01 Z. You have nothing to be embarrassed about.

I not about to go make a huge fuss about the 2002 having 20 more horsepower. Besides, I put a new throttle body and intake on my car so I bet mine has more than 405 now anyway. Its a minor increase which can be acquired much easier and cheaper than a trade in. Buy a new air filter, done....
Man, I sure hope the original poster was kidding with his badging tomfoolery... What a joke.

Me, I've taken my '01 badges off altogether. I have my HP numbers written in chalk instead. That way I can just wipe the fender clean and scribble the new HP numbers on it whenever I add a mod.

Puh-LEEZE!

Actually I wasn't kidding, but I'm not sure if I am going to do it. If you look over on CF, someone already beat me to it, so it must not be that silly after all. I wonder how many closet '01 with '02 badge people are out there? Personally, I'll bet there are others out there that saw me get flamed and don't want to own up to it. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

This reminds me of the same trend that started ten years ago in an attempt to steal the ZR-1's thunder. IMHO, the people doing that were only making themselves look bad.

Heck, they even did it on that popular TV show about the group of high school kids in Beverly Hills that were in their mid 20s by the time they graduated. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

One of the main characters on that show (Steve, I think) was during one episode was pretending to drive a ZR 1 "convertible".

Jesus H. Christ, Tinseltown, please give us a break!!!

Personally, I think the new emblem would be better if it proclaimed "LS6/405HP" and the
existing Z06 emblem was on the rear bumper instead of either side of the hood, ala ZR-1 style. (I always thought the ZR-1 should've had "LT5" emblems on the hood anyway).

Another approach would be to actually remove the Z06 emblems regardless of Z06 model year. Why? Obviously, to smoke one past your insurance agent who asks to inspect your new C5 Corvette before assigning full coverage and the premium payment due. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Unfortunately that won't work. The insurance companies are pretty sophisticated today. All they do is ask for the VIN, not whether its a Z06, they know automatically. My insurance policy lists my car as a Corvette Z06 without them ever asking me if it was or not. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_mad.gif Maybe its due to all of the added safety features of the C5, but it isn't any more to insure than my '98 Cobra was and cost almost twice as much new. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif
