Door popping?

1106 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  N4C5S
I've asked this a few times, repeating for the benefit of our new users (and myself /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

My driver door refuses to open and I have to pull on the front fender from the inside of the cove to get it to release.

If I forget, it makes a loud popping and I've lost a little paint from this ordeal...

It only happens when that side is facing the sun for extended periods.

I'm gonna catch it on video and post it someday so you guys can see just how stupid this is...

WTF - Was your car wrecked? If not, have you taken it to the dealer for a fix? My doors are the tightest, best fitting of any car I have owned. Do you have the problem all the time or just once in a while? Hope you can get it fixed right. Boy - that would drive me nutty till it was right. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Get in contact with JLAEnterprises and check on how he had GM buy back ONE of his TWO Corvettes..../phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds like yours was damaged somewhere between the end of the Assembly line and point of origin........./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

It's fairly rare, and the sun has to bake it for awhile (line 4 hours) and if I pull on the cove it won't do it...The doors fit great, no problems, it's just hanging....

Do me a favor, open your doors and see how close your gap is....

HI there,
This sounds very weird, check for where exactly the door is hitting, as I am interested in this.
Look to see if the striker is worn on the top or bottom.
also, look to see if you gap all around the door is equal. Let me know, c4c5
It's hitting on the front egde, right by the cove, ie, the apex of the curve on the front.

The door is slightly protruding away from the cove piece. I'll try to take a picture..

It does sound as if your car was possibly wrecked on a test drive and put back together. Not only the door popping, but that horrible pitting in the wheel wells that you posted about. BTW, how did you make out with the wheel well paint situation? If my memory serves me correctly, you posted pictures of your horribly pitted wheel wells not too long ago. The side-streets in my neighborhood are still sand covered from the winter and my car hasn't shown any sign of paint chipping in the wheel wells at all. My side vents are another story, but those can easily be replaced without painting anything. Best of luck!
My car had 3 miles on it when I picked it up.

As for the paint, it was not there before, the paint was perfect at delivery.

I'll get a pic tomorrow...
