Downshifting transmissions

Am I shifting the "correct" way?

To save the transmission I blip the throttle and double clutch on downshifts. This leads to some interesting stares and people that think I want to race when I am simply slowing for a stoplight. Anyone else do this on the street?

I generally see more wear and damage on the synchronizers if I don't match the transmission speed to the engine speed by double clutching on downshifts.
Most road racers I know use this method of bringing up the engine rpms to match the gear speeds in the transmission and don’t seem to have the transmission failures like the people that just slam the shifter into a lower gear and let it whine.
