I was wondering if people could use this thread to post the best way that have found to launch their Z06s and with what mods and if they have 1/4 mile times to post that too.

I really havent taken much opportunities to practice launching the car and doing many WOT runs and want to get an idea from you folks what the best method was.

I DO know that with AH off and revving it at about 2k and dumping the clutch, you will spin away about $20 worth of rubber and go nowhere /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif But I have a buddy that has a MKIV TT Supra that he just got out of the shop with a guesstimate of around 600 hp and we're talking about running against each other for fun. I haven't officialy gone head-to-head with anyone yet and against a car like that really don't like the idea of my first race being a LOSS against a high hp Goliath but I'm gonna give it my best shot and be ready for it.

I was even thinking of getting a G-Tech to track my numbers. Has anybody used thosed and think they are worth it?

Thanks,
Don

Keep in mind the traction at the strip is WAY better. I was dumping the clutch at 2500, and it was bogging... 2.08 60's.

The traction at "your" strip may be better. The traction here is much, much, much worse. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif Very rarely do they prep the track. $6.00 for as many runs as you can make doesn't get you much of a track. Oh well the cost of paradise. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif:D

Don, I think I ordered mine from west coast corvettes. Check the CF forum mall. I think it was $130 something.

does anybody have the real numbers for 0-60 for a Z06, I am getting conflicting reports, Gm says 4 sec flat, auto magazines test shows 4.7 sec, that is almost the same as the coupe. I am deciding which one to buy, coupe ot z06, any comments would be appriciated.

I don't know exactly what you guys call "dumping" the clutch, but if you literally let it come up as fast as it can that can't be too good for your times as you'll either get lots of wheel spin or bog the engine down. In my opinion it's best to keep rpms around 2000 while quickly but gradually releasing the clutch and as soon as the clutch is fully engaged floor the gas. At least that works on my Firebird. In the Z06 you might get too much wheel spin even after the clutch is out.

As far as 0-60 times go Motor Trend, whose numbers I trust the most among all mags, got 4.3. Even the incompetent drivers of R&T got 4.6 so 4.7 would really be ridiculous.

ROHINTON:

Welcome to the forum!!!

As far as which Vet to buy, you will obviously get a biased answer here: The Z0-6 Corvette. Period, no brainer.

Seriously, if you want a performance sports car and enjoy "driving" your automobile, get the Z06 and you will not look back. IF, however, you want a Corvette for the sake of the Vet experience, you might stick with the Coupe. After experiencing the Vet "thing" you will probably want to step up to a Z06.
So, my bottom line advice: Skip the Vet "thing" experience and get a Z06 from the get-go and eliminate what most of us have been thru: progressing up to the Z06.

I have owned about 45-50 cars in the last 37 years, and 6 of those have been Corvettes. Check my sig to see my next Vet, but, like I said above, I am biased.

Njoy whatever Vet you buy!

rohinton,
I had a 98 coupe 6sdp with z-51 before I got the Z06. I could never get better than 5.0 0-60s with a G-tech pro. Now my Z06 will pull 4.8s with lousy launches and 4.5s with good launches. Some others on this forum have done much better than that with stock Z06s.
We are just talking quickness thus far but where I believe the Z06 really shines is in handling. The mags have the Z06 pulling between 0.97 and 1.0g in turns while the coupes do 0.88-0.92. Thats a huge difference and gives the car a totally different feel than the coupe. I believe the main reason for the coupes/convertables poor handling is those run-flat tires.
I feel much more confident taking my Z06 to the limit than I did my coupe. The Z06 is a race car for the street. If you get one you wont be sorry.
