If as reported
the '02 Z06 has a 20 HP increase, this will probably take a couple of changes in the engine, not just air flow, etc.
So it would seem appropriate that it would have a new RPO.
I quess we will all know soon enough.
Would make our 01's a one year car, engine and wheels.

JJ, I am thinking the same thing, I do not care that much about the 20 hp, but the 02' will be out in less than 4 months.

The engine, for the most part will be the same. The LS1 has evolved slightly ever since '97... since then (Not including the LS-6) the LS1 has seen improved Block casting, Cylinder Heads, Camshaft, and Intake Manifold changes. Although it has always been referred to as an LS-1. Now the LS-6 has a slightly different block casting, Heads, and Cam... Yet a complete Name Change? This makes sense because it is sold along side the LS-1... and obviously needs to be set apart from the LS-1. But to call the LS-6 an LS-7 for '02 doesn't make as much sense... since any design changes/improvements would be nothing different than typcial Engine evolotion.

You won't see anything different other than maybe 'MINOR' changes to Heads, and/or Cam Profile. Everything else would stay the same, would be my guess.

As for thinking the '02's will have better wheels! You are very optimistic! The '01 wheels are very smooth... I would be concerned at what GM may think is 'better' than the '01 wheels personally!

My .02

Carl:

I haven't heard about a new numerical designation for the '02 engine, but if it has more hp, Zippy wants one!

Zippy, you are correct "Some is good and more is better" I think it 02' for me unless there is a fire sale.

I could be wrong, but would GM use a previously used expermiental engine badge?

Has this ever been done? The LS7 has already been used. It was a test alum big block that reportedly made near 575 hp...Less than a dozen were made...

My dealer said he would know something after the dealers meeting in April, as always we will probably know before that.

I have read a few times now that the engine in the 02' Z06 will be the "LS7" and not the "LS6", anyone else hear this? In the same reading they said the the LS6 engine back in the early 70's was only made as an option for 1 years and so will the LS6 in the Z06, is this true? Please advise.

The LS6 was a 1 year RPO in '71 for the 454 BB.

Although.... Z-06 was a 1 year option, as well... and they are continuing that name!

So... I don't really know what sense it makes to change the engine designation... but Hey... anything to make the '01 a bit different is cool with me!
