Does anyone else have this problem. The engine ticking noise. If you do, could you please explain when(what rpm range), how it happened, and how long its been going on for and what you did to solve the problem. THANKS andy

Baron I see what you mean but if I had a broken piston would I have made it home from deans??? I did without any problems. I didn't do a compression test yet. Ill let the dealer deal with that issue. If its a serious internal problem like a piston or rings what would the dealer do??? or what would you do if the dealer said that it was an internal problem???? Would they give me a new motor. An 02 or 03 engine???? Or fix the problem with new parts. I know what would I want a whole new engine with out a doubt.
Ever since saturday it hasn't pumped oil out of the dipstick tube. I've reved it to redline and nothing. So that's weird.
Tick Tick Tick!

I had to put in my 2 on this one as you have nearly described the exact conditions as what is happening to my car:eek:
Just curious, how many miles are on your car? Mine, 20k+! Only difference between what you described and my issue is that mine comes and goes...had it check at a mechanic friend of mine and stated he didn't think it was the injectors as occasionally it dissapeared...said mostl likely a flat or going flat tappet...also, mine did not pronouncely increase in tone porportional to increase in engine RPM...maybe we should try some ol-Marvel Mystery Oil huh? :p The over-reving bit I wouldn't worry about as the rev-limiter cuts out at 50rpm early than the 6500rpm redline.

Regardless, it's going back to the dealer this week to be safe...no codes for me as yet...curious to find out what your dealer diagnoses.

Best to you from the Pacific Blue!
If it's associated with a specific cylinder(s), the dealer may be able to isolate the problem by turning the cylinders off one at a time with a Tech II. The last post I saw like this was a wrist pin problem, but almost anything can cause similar noises. It might be simple, or not.

I'd suggest not driving it until a dealer can check it thoroughly to preclude the possibility of collateral damage. Also, that way if they say it's ok and something happens afterward, you're in a stronger position.
this may or may not be related,
I have the same and I'm going to have
my dealer check for this...

Good info. Thanks for posting. I wonder if you got your engine nice and hot with a couple of high speed runs and then checked your dip stick, would you notice tiny bubbles if aeration of the oil were the case?
Great info parish elliott ill print it out and show it to my dealer so they dont give me any shit!!!!!!!
FWIW, that's just one noise and one problem source. There are a lot of other similar ones in the engine, and some of them are indeed normal.

Unless you're sure of the exact cause, It might not be wise to focus on any single area immediately.

The dealer's undoubtedly well aware of the TSB.

Good luck.
After looking over the TSBs, I noticed I have two similiar problems that are listed for 2001 LS1/LS6 corvettes. The reduced power from second to third shift and a whistle coming from the engine at idle. I wonder if anyone else has noticed these problems?
I've got an idle whistle ('02). I've seen other posts, but I don't recall the conclusion, if any.

Looks like the TSB indicates R&R the intake manifold. Supposedly the 02 shouldn't have that problem so I wonder what else it could be. Leaking intake gaskets? The new 03 I drove at the dealers whistled bad. Sounded like it had a turbo!

Tick Tick Tick

I was driving down the freeway on Sunday and some guy next to me was motioning to his ears with a screwy look on his face. When I rolled down the window, he said "Do you hear that tick tick?". THen sped off - - I thought he was just acting crazy and I listened for about 2-3 minutes speeding up & letting off - I heard nothing - but thought it might be bolt in my tire or something -
Until I read this post.....

Can you guys hear this ticking from inside while driving? I didn't hear anything - and thought he was just F'ing with me..
He was screwing with you more than likely. I can never hear the tick outside the car. I notice it at around 2000 rpm under light load or cruise conditions. It might be there under WOT or something less, but then all I hear is the exhaust! If it was loud enough for him to hear I guarantee you would also!

Thanks Jub - - I think you're right - We were going 70 down the freeway and this guy looked like he was wacked out on somthing; the tick would have had to be mighty loud for him to hear with all that road noise, and I couldn't hear it... I'll keep an ear out anyway! :)
Well I could understand that but its never happened before. It just started. Now when I rev the motor you can hear it more(loud) up in till about 4000rpm. I don't think its a noisy injector???????
I just started having the same clicking noise today after 75 miles on the car. Lower left side only.
