Insurance sticker shock!

Ok I have 2 vettes in the family, the new Z06 and a '90. Also insure a 99 Suburban and an 88 Astro Van as a beater/winter vehicle.

The insurance wasn't too; bad even though my oldest is an 18 year old male. He dosen't drive either of the vette's but if you have that mix under one roof your premiums will be higher. I guess even though he isn't listed as a driver he still has access to it.

The killer came in May when my oldest girl(17) passed her test and the youngest turned 16 and got her permit. So.... we now have 3 drivers under 18 in the house with four vehicles 2 being Corvettes. Even though the 90 is being restored, I am the only driver on the Z06, my wife drives the Suburban and the kids share the Astro Van with a $1,000 deductable the insurance bill is.......

$808.00 per MONTH!!!!!!

My agent says it would probably be cheaper to by another car (5 total) to qualify for fleet insurance rates.

In addition to the toys listed below..I have 1999 & 1997 Cadillacs. One teenage daughter has a 6cyl Firebird & the other a 6 cyl Camaro (Insurance on those is pretty cheap). Part of the way I avoid the high cost is to carry $1000 ded on all cars (but carry full comp!) and then have the girls listed specifically as drivers on their cars. By insisting on that it keeps them off the Corvettes (which they don't drive anyway). I also don't carry any additional rental car or towing junk coverages. That combined with good student discounts keeps me around $6000 a year. If I were you I would also shop companies. I have found quite a bit of difference in rates with different companies and even on each car! The problem with all of this is it varies from state to state and the insurance companies are really ripping us all off. In my case, 5 of my vehicles are parked at any given time. The only risk to big brother insurance is theft...and that is not a big loss cost for insurance companies. The whole thing is a racket and the states continue to support it!

You are screwed. The vettes are not hurting you!!! Its the teenagers!! I have a 72 vette plus the Z06, 98 Suburban, and 99 Honda Accord EX (3 drivers). Last fall the Z was $4 per yr more than the Honda and $12 less per year than the Suburban. The 18 year old male was assigned to the 72 vette as the lowest value car and pays close to $1300 per year. The vettes do not cost anymore than other cars when in the hands of mature adults due to low claim statistics. You already know what the claim stats are for any car that a teenager drives (4 times the adult rate). I too use $1000 deductable to keep premiums within this atmosphere.

With that in$$$$urance rate, it might explain why that woman drowned her 5 kids.

DINKS here too!

We have four cars on our USAA policy. But if five cars can get me fleet insurance, that might be an angle for me to try and convince may wife we need another Vette /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

OUCH....But honest guy @ gals, If you saw the stats on young drivers 16 to 23, you would understand why the premiums are so ridiculous for young drivers. I am in the Insurance bus, not defending rates, have seen the stats for all age groups for North America, no easy solution....
