I track my 2001 Z06 every month in a competition series at a variety of road courses. I am actually quite happy with the performance of the standard PBR C5 calipers and Wilwood J pads.

However I am looking for upgrades and am considering the Wilwood 6R OEM fitment kit. 6 piston calipers sound good and I can keep stock rims and the DBA rotors I am using. My concern is about the pad surface area which actually decreases with any of the Wilwood calipers compared to the stock caliper. With a smaller pad surface area the pad has to work harder and hotter to provide the same performance.

Is the braking performance of this setup actually better than stock? While there may be some gain with the better force distribution of 6 pistons is the overall gain positive with a smaller pad area?
