When I stated that I thought there was a lot of hype, I wasn't trying to say that it wasn't a problem. One buyback is a problem, and I feel for those who have had the problem. That said, however, it doesn't appear to me, to be as widespread as some are making it out to be. I have been following posts for the last nine months, and the explosion of posts on the issue didn't start until after GM went public with it. If you notice someone on CF had a 2000 Coupe bought back, however, back in August/September 2000, when I was doing my research, you would be lucky if you found a post on oil consumption regarding the 2000s and there weren't any on the 2001s. There was maybe one post on the 2000s every month or so, I know this from experience. From what I have seen GM's going public with the information, that some cars may have a problem, has created mass hysterial. Heck now whenever some Corvette owners see condensate steam coming out of their tailpipes, automatically they think its oil consumption and want a buyback. I commend GM for going public with the information, but I don't think that it was necessarily in their best interest, because it is giving the Z06/Corvette a bad name, and IMHO, undeservedly. It is a difficult situation. I have never had the problem, like yourself, and have been closely following the posts on the problem. The percentage that have the problem seems relatively small, relative to the number of people who post on these forums, IMHO. What I have seen is a lot of suspicion, but very few cars that actual consume gross amounts of oil. Just my $.02. Flame me if you want guys.
