Frustrated with body shop

1311 Views 18 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  22655TD
As those of you who have been following this on the other forum know, the Z06 is in the body shop to get the Spectre Werkes rear fascia installed. It's been there for over a week now and it still is not primered, just fittend and sanded for primer.

Every day I call I get the same story: I's raining and we can't work on it(?), there are others ahead of you, our paint man went to lunch and hasn't come back, yada, yada, yad. But my favoite is, we don't want to rush it. We want a good quality job. All this while initially promising to have it done last Friday. Now he says by this Friday.

Now I'm sitting here thinking, wouldn't it be funny when I go to pick up the car if I told him that there were other people in front of him to pay, my accountant is out of town, I don't want to rush things, I want to write a quality check, yada, yada, yada, and then leave. I bet he wouldn't like that at all.

I have never had good service from a body shop, good work, but terrible service. Maybe someday!

David,

I feel your frustration, but the worse thing to do is to rush them. In rainy or high humidity conditions, it would be best to let the car sit. I've found in the past that if I try to rush a bodyshop, then I would get a rushed half a$$ paint job.

I agree Frank, and it's not that I'm trying to get more work done in less time, I'm just trying to get SOME work done.

I really like your thoughts on excuses for not paying them immediately.

If you feel inclined, stop by early at the shop with a box of donuts and jug of coffee. You may well rise in the shop's esteem and move up on the to-do list. There's always the case of beer trick too... usually works for me.

Dave, just keep telling yourself that it will be worth the wait, and it will.

Wooooo Hooooo!! The body shop did something today. Finally finished the prep work and test fitting. They say they'll primer it tomorrow and test fit again.

Finally!!!!!!!!
SS,
The PA body shops aren't any different, at least the one's I've has dealings with.
Keep thinking how its going to look when its done, but it is good to hear they made some progress.

A little advice

my good freind owns A body shop in San Jose CA and I have had my camaro into him a few times (before i sold it) my brohters car in there a few times and my dads car in there as well. (vette has not had the privledge yet).

the best way to deal with a body shop is to drop your car off with a case of beer and say "take your time guys" this will ensure that at least they like you. You cant do anything about what goes on at a body shop and since they are painting your car you want it done right not fast. by calling all the time all you do is piss them off then they rush the job and its not done perfect additonally they may not take the care or pride in the job since your car will be the one whos "owner is a dick lets just get it out of here"

2 people in life never to mess with
your mechanic
your body shop guy
