S.E. part of town. This guy was ready to shoot me, and I am really not kidding. This guy should not have a gun. After requesting all the normal documents he comes back to my car and rights me up for not wearing my seat belt. Can this be a high priority for the District of Columbia. He used his full complement of lights/bull horn and everything to get me to pull over. I was not speeding or anything and believe I was just being hasseled. The ticket states that this is a moving violation. Nice way to start the morning a thought. I guess that's how D.C. generates revenue so mayors can smoke crack. Craig

Ouch. I believe in seat belts but I know you could have enjoyed spending that $50 another way

Craig...You are a genuine criminal!!

You, not wearing a seat belt and me, not displaying a front plant. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif We're probably going to be elevated to the FBI's top 10 most wanted list. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif

Craig:

Might be worth it to talk to a lawyer to avoid points and higher insurance.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune!

I've been pulled over twice in my Z06 for no reason, both times they couldn't pin anything on.

First time: One cop radioed to another cop that a corvette was going 100 miles an hour going the other direction. But he actually had no evidence, just the word of another copy who was going the other direction on the highway. In this instance, I was actually going the speed limit because I knew I was approaching a radar trap. So he had to let me go.

Second time: A cop trailed me for a couple of miles when I was going the speed limit. He pulled me over because he said the CA DMV didn't have a record of my license plate in their computer system. I had just gotten my plate the previous day. He had to let me go too.

Geez,

So much for thinking that they couldn't stop or cite you in Wash DC, MD, and VA if your only offense is not wearing a seat belt.

I find it comical that a 1 year old can sit on a parents lap on an airplane so in the event of a incident the kids skull is crushed but not wearing a seat belt is against the law. I also see that not wearing a motorcycle helmet in FL is now legal so one can kill themselves that way. I wear my seat belt practically all the time, just forgot this time. I know in FL they can't pull you over for not wearing you seat belt but I will try to find out what the law is in D.C.

Craig -- Now wait a minute... How exactly is it that you were pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt?! I mean, don't we all sit low enough in our Z's that it's difficult AT BEST to see whether or not we're wearing them? Or, did you get pulled over, and the cop looked into the car and saw that you weren't wearing one? 'CAUSE IF IT WAS THE LATTER, I've been in that situation before, and told the cop that "I took the belt off to get my wallet out" (since they always ask for info that you keep in your wallet)...

The officer couldn't say anything to that.

What happened in your case? As long as you didn't "admit" to him that you weren't wearing your belt, I'd think you could claim that you were wearing it, but that you had taken it off by the time he came to your window.

An interesting thing is that SCHOOL buses don't even have seatbelts. Funny how most of their passengers are children!!!

Perfectly said. I was pulled over for running a yellow light, which I got the cop to admit after he pulled me over. He then said he had to give me a ticket for not wearing my seat-belt. I was so pissed because I had taken it off to get my ID out. He wouldn't budge on the seat-belt issue and told me to take it up with the judge. I went to court and after 1 minute of explaining to the judge what had happened, the charge was dismissed. I was still angry that I had to waste time to sit in traffic court. However, it beat the insurance hike......

KMeloney,

I'm guilty of not wearing the seatbelt. It's easy to see the shoulder belt over your shoulder when the belt is on especially if you are wearing a light colored shirt. I'm just sending in my money. Not worth my time or effort fighting city hall. Case closed.

Dang, Craig... Sorry about your luck.

This reminds me of a time I got pulled over by one of MD's finest. I got pulled over in my Dad's 1973 TR6 coming home from Richmond. The cop got me doing 73 (I think it was). Anyway, after asking for my info, he looked in and saw that I wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and scolded "Does this car come with seatbelts?!" I told him that it did -- and he gave me the ol' "Then why aren't you wearing it?!" crap. I ansured him that I was, but that I had taken it off to get my wallet out. He walked back to his car.

Then, after taking his time writing me up, he offered the wisdom "You know, I used to race these cars -- they handle well, but they don't hold up in crashes. Slow down!"

Now, I ask you: If he used to race TR6's , then why didn't he know that they come with seatbelts?!

Give me a break...
