Jason,

I saw one of these units on Ken Kings car when I was in Detroit last week. He didn't have it completely hooked up yet but it looked pretty cool. I'll try to contact Ken and see if I can get him to comment.

I really like the earthmate and street atlas V.8.0 by delorme running on a notebook computer for its ability to move to any vehicle I am in. It is not a "built in" like you are seeking but it works so well.

I'm still waiting for the General to put an electronic compass in our rearview mirror....my mid '80's Dodge minivan had one, but I never used a minivan for road rallys! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif Maybe we'll finally see an electronic compass in our beloved Covettes in the '02 model....Zippy's hoping!

Hey guys,

Forgive me for invading your forum, but when I smoke some of you at the track, I want to be able to say "I READ YOUR FORUM YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS!" (extra credit for those who know where that comes from).

Anyways, I am a big GPS geek... I am partial to the Garmin stuff... I have a GPS III and a III+, and I just got a StreetPilot III. The StreetPilot is awesome. It gives you voice prompts when you are driving, it will auto-calculate routes for you. If you miss a turn, it will auto-recalc your route for you. It's about $800 (or so), and it comes with software. You can create routes on your computer and upload it to your GPS... definitely the very best of the portable GPS's.

If I were going for a permanent GPS, I'd get one of the stereos that has an LCD display that flips up and out and hook it to a GPS in the trunk. Back when I was looking, the Alpine was the "one to have" back then, but I bet there are more that are better now.

I'd recommend the StreetPilot III. Got a good deal on mine from www.cyber-marine.com
