Hello:

I just recently purchased the following mods for my 02Z:

AFR 205 Heads (Milled for 11:1 Compression Ratio)
G5X-2 112 Cam (With all of the Retainers, Pushrods, etc)
Comp 921 Springs
LG Long Tube Headers with Random Tech Cats
Vararam Intake
ASP Underdrive Pulley
Comp R Lifters
Thermostat
Injectors

I have not put these yet (And it will get tuned). I also have a Corsa Titanium Exhaust.

Do I need to install a Double Roller Timing Chain (If so, what kind - I was considering the Rollmaster Double Roller Timing Chain)? Or is it better to leave the stock chain in it? I do not race or drag the car, just want to be sure it is reliable.

With a double roller timing chain, are there timing issues?

For guys that have H/C Upgrades - Do you have a double roller timing chain? I need advice from the experts on this forum.

No

It is not necessary. The added weight of the gear and chain assembly does nothing more than wear out the front and rear cam bearing.

To correctly install and degree the cam you will need some cam degree buttons(comp cams) and a properly machined stock front gear(cam gear).

No, I agree with Andy. I would upgrade to a stronger chain, though.

I did. I am sorry I have no brand to share.

No need for a double roller, just added work plus you have to shim the oil pump. I would upgrade to an 04 chain. Its a beefier chain. When I had my 02 down, I upgraded and with both of them side by side, you can see the difference.

Don't use a double roller, Lou sells a Hi Performance chain that will work fine. The double chain has spacing issues with the oil pump. You don't need to dial in that cam. Just get a GOOD single chain. The old one will appear loose and the new one will appear loose after 3k miles.

Thank you to all members for your feedback.

Where can I purchase a C5R (J-swiss) single chain?

Also, who has the best price on SVO #30 injectors?

Thank you

Why wouldnt you?
Why even chance poppin a single?
Well, then again, I dont know what the car is for and how it will be driven.
I would do it anyway...Extremely Cheap Insurance. I had it done and was never informed of any oil pump clearance issues.

Whether it was cheap insurance or not, I put in the double roller gear/chain from Rollmaster when I did the cam install, as well as the ASP UD pulley.

No shimming or machining required.

I used a Katech single chain when I did my H/C install.
If it's good enough for the C5R, then is plenty good enough for my little 346! :yeadog:

Although you may not race, I would never reinstall a part that is known to be weak and has been upgraded in late production LS6s and all the LS2s and LS7 engines.

Passing on a stronger part is NOT an economy move.

Put a Crane double in the 408. 800+ at the flywheel I'm not taking any chances.
