Does anone know of a good harness bar for the Z06. I just called to order the one in the Mid America Catalog, but they can't get it anymore.
I don't need a real serious harness bar. I was really only buying it for fun (it has a camera mount).
I want one that is a simple instaltion as well. I dont want any permanant mods to the interior of the car.

There are two sources that I know of, Arizona Speed & Marine and Brey-Krause--I have the Brey-Krause in my car. The installation for either one is the same, take off a few parts, bolt it in and replace the parts you took off.

The one that Arizona Speed & Marine makes is the one I was looking for. It is the same one that MA was selling. (however MA shows it upside down in their catalog.)

The lightest harness bar that I know of (about 14 lbs) can be found at http://store.yahoo.com/corvetteforum/c5z06crossbar.html. It is made of 1 1/2 in square tubing. The Brey-Krause is Stainless Steel and much heavier.

Gary Hoffman of Harness bar makes an excellent harness bar. See, http://www.hardbar.net/ One option is two inch aluminum and is comparatively light.

While it looks very simple and like "just" a straight bar, it is much more sophisticated than this. For example, as it does not use mounting tabs, it doesn't need vertical uprights to the floor to compensate for rotational forces.

Gary will happily answer any questions that you might have. Give him a call. If nothing else, you will learn a lot of engineering in the process.

BTW, IOPort Racing makes an excellent camera mount. Hardbar also makes one.

My Arizona Speed & Marine harness bar came UPS lare Friday night. I got it installed yesterday. Took about 30 minutes total. About 5 to install the harness bar itself, and the rest to pull out the seats and install the floor mounts.
It looks/fits perfect. I am going to Simpson today to pick up a couple 5 point harnesses to finish the job.

This isn't a great picture, but it works... This is the Brey-Krause bar. It's heavy. But it's black, and it has notches for the shoulder harness straps. Has the floor mounts as well. I installed the other mounts at the same time, so it wasn't a big deal taking the seats out. I'm running 6 point harnesses. The shoulders wrap around the harness bar, and the bottom 4 clip into the other mounts. Easy on, easy off.

I'm also using the IOPort camera mount, which you can see in the picture as well.

It took me about an hour to install - but I'm slow, and always mess things up.

I've been looking for something like this! Checked out the Hardbar site, cool. If I get the 6 point set up, do I HAVE to take my seat out to anchor the lower belts,(I assume the tops bole into where the old lap belts would have been)and the shoulder belts loop around the bar, or can you just screw them into some existing bolts on the floor?
