Instead of tearing up my stock MAF, I would like to just buy and install an 02. Has anyone done this? Does it screw up any codes or is it a simple bolt on deal? Do I have to reprogram or does the car relearn this mod itself?
Well, when I was at school a few years ago, I was told that the screen is to straighten out the air flow that goes across the MAF element itself, to give a more consistant reading.
It was basically made to cut down on uneven airflow around the sensor element.
Now, with GM removing the screen, I wish I knew why we were told that, but I was always against it because of what I was told.
Color me as confused as the rest of us on this one, /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif .

Steve Cole told me the stock airbox is different on the '02, and that it has vanes now, and that they do the "straightning" of the air that was formerly done by the screen. He said all of the technical articles missed this point. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif
Hib, is this correct? If it is, you may not want to change the airbox, but it probabily would help to get more cold air into the intake by providing another source(cut a hole in the shroud) and direct the air to the intake.
I pick up my car on 12-23-00 and on the 24 removed the screen. Their is not one dif on 01 to 02 MAF but the screen and Chevy just reprogramed the ECM. When I pulled out the screen i also cut out the top of the stock air box and removed all the vains inside the cover. No check eng lite.. Ask cole about
