How many of you will trade your '01 Z06 for a '02??

I was just wondering, now that it seems that HUD and more HP appears to be a certainty for the 2002 Z06, how many of you guys will be trading your '01 Z06 for a '02? Will the addition of 20+ HP & HUD be worth the additional cost associated with any trade-in deal? Also, I wonder if the oil consumption problem associated with (some) of these 2001's will affect the trade in value of these cars? I just think that it sucks monkey A** that GM didn't make HUD standard equipment for the Z06 right from the start. I'm also thinking that re-sale value and demand for any 2001 Z06 will not be that great because who would want to purchase a used Z06 with a potential oil consumption problem AND without HUD, one of the most popular regular Corvette options that would now be standard equipment on every '02 Z06. Since I still don't (not yet anyway; knock on wood) have an oil consumption problem, I will probably keep my '01 Z06. However, if this does become a problem in the near future, I will probably get rid of this one and get a '02 or '03 Z06 provided GM fixes this serious oil consumption problem. 2001 Z06: keeper or not? What do you think??

no way no how! why take a hit on a 2001 z06 when you will be able to wait until the 03 model for some significant changes !!!
will you notice 20 extra horses? I dont believe so!
anyway those are just my thoughts.
Just placed deposit on an Electron Blue '02, mainly because I have seen the actual color swatch in the sunlight and love it!
I also made an agreement with my dealer to get a no questions asked refundable deposit if I change my mind when the car arrives at the showroom.
That's just me...everyone must do what is best with their individual situation.

I won't be trading my '01 for an '02. I have 6000 miles and haven't experienced excessive oil use. I don't want HUD and I am glad that it wasn't on the '01. The blue does not interest me in the least bit. I am not yet convinced that there really will be a 20HP increase for '02. I think the 385HP rating was a little low, with a dyno run of 342RWHP, the '01 is probably already pushing 400HP. If I see 362+ RWHP dyno report then I will be convinced that there is a 20HP gain.
Still there is no compelling reason to trade the '01 for an '02 for me. If I had a coupe or convertible, then yeah I would trade in a heart beat.
For me the decision is easy... I love WHITE! So I Couldn't do a '02! As for the 20HP... and HUD... HUD doesn't impress me, I think it is a nifty gadget... that's it! I would have rathered the option for BASE Stereo, and No Power Seat. The Taxes alone would be what a Good Head & Cam Pkg would cost. For me... If the 20HP is REAL... I may just step up to a nice set of good Heads & Cam... Then we will be dynoing closer to 425 to the Rear! Not 405 at the Motor!
All in all... I am glad to see Chevy continuing to step it up! They are great cars!
Lets wait and see what "real improvements" can be had with the 2002 Z06 /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

20 HP. may be hard to define on the road /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

The 2001 Z06 was such a HUGE performance gain over the stock C-5 that the anticipated improvement for the Z06 in 2002 may be hard to determine. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

If your current Z06 is an "oil-burner" then thats another issue /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

NO WAY!! The way I look at it, I have one car that pulls 408HP and another that pulls 401HP,with NO oil problems at all!
As far as HUD being added,I personally think thats crazy, what I mean is, you build a factory road racer why stick something in your direct line of site,I know you can turn it off,so what's the point!!!
Even though my 408HP car is for sale,it sure ain't for a 02, my 401HP(in process of making it what GM should make them)will be in the stable for quite sometime!!!

Just my thoughts and opinions!!
My 01 is a keeper. I'm waiting to see what the C6 is all about.
I'm not trading. My car already dyno's at 405 hp so the increase doesn't impress me. This is just marketing hype since 2002 is a lame duck year as many people will opt for the 2003, 50th anniversary model instead.

As for the HUD, it's nice, but I don't miss it and it's not worth the $5000 hit I'd take on trading the car. I also like the fact that white has been discontinued. It's makes my Z06 a little more distinct.
I can't justify it cost or performance wise. I like my Z just the way it is (no HUD or memory or other frills). Have had no quality issues (knock on wood), and so far, 1600 miles, no excessive oil consumption.

That said, if the car becomes an oil guzzeler, then I need to re-think the whole thing. I certainly would NOT be confortable with a tear down (new rings)as there may be new problems created. The real solution in my mind, would be for GM to install the newer version LS6, complete. Would probalby be cheaper from a labor stand point too.
Any way, a head and cam package would definitely be the way to go for my car now, it would cost about the same as a trade up,and you would have a few more ponies to show for it.
I will keep mine at least till the C6 comes out! Then all bets off. That assumes, of course, they make a Z06 C6! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

No I won't be trading mine. Although I love blue. My previous car, '98 Cobra, was Bright Atlantic Blue. Prettiest color car I have owned. I see Frank hasn't answered this one yet. I'm really curious if Frank will be taking the '02 plung?
I would like nothing better than to get the new Blue Z. After seeing that paint chip today, I got major wood.

Unfortunately, wife says NO!! She does own all the PU$$Y in the house!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif I'm going home tomorrow to start major begging!! Yes dear...whatever you want dear!! PLEASE!!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif

wife wouldnt let me anyways.

i ordered my car at msrp... before the $1000 increase late 2000 so i think i got a great car for a great price.

also, i love the '01 FORGED rims. 10-spoke is the in thing now and changing designs, it will make the '01s stand out just as well as the '02 CAST rims. i'd love a second set so that i could powder coat them black!

to spend the money for 20 extra horses, i could use that same money to buy the '02 MAF, cam and springs and have norris motorsports put it in and buy a donaldson filter (unless the new filter is gonna be real good).

or if i plan big, just go 422 CUBIC INCHES! 383 if on a budget /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I'd trade in a heartbeat, if the net wasn't more than $2k. But I bet the base 2002 will msrp at $49,995, and Mr. Sales Manager isn't going to part with more than $42-43K. IMO.

If I did get the 02, I'd have to get some 01 Emblems--No way I want 405HP on the side, I can't think of too many "street" cars that ever had the HP on the side.

Electron blue looks hot, you want it Frank, do it!

Wish I got white, now!
Nope....I Love "MY" Z. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I agree that the HUD is a worthless option on a true racer, and I did not buy my Z for gadgets, if I wanted the HUD, I would have got a coupe! I too will wait for a MAJOR HP Increase....50 (65)!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif Until I upgrade. I still think its /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif to have a 1st year Z.....just my 0.2 /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

No way. the Beast is a definite keeper.

Dyno at 410 HP. Had the HUD on my 2000 Coupe. Don't miss it at all.

What would I take an additional hit for?
Yup, both of them are gone and after reading Hib's article last night - the one good thing about being on the west coast is we get to not have to stay up too late - I am thriled that in about 8 weeks I get the new baby. She will be resale red with the bordello interior - I'm going away from silver for the first time.....hope I like it.
