I got my title this week and registered the new Z yesterday.

In Arkansas you have to visit the tax office first to add the new vehicle to your property tax assessment. The clerk asked, "did you take a factory delivery?" I thought that was an interesting question. I told her, "no, I was supposed to but they were too booked up so I had it drop shipped." Come to find out she was originally from Bowling Green, said she lived there when the population was 1,000 people.

Then down to DMV, had a slight snag there as my insurance company sent me an insurance card which said the insurance wasn't effective until next week. On the phone again and they faxed the proof of insurance to the DMV office.

The DMV clerk wasn't sure how to handle an out of state title that was clear of liens but finally figured that out. They also didn't know the weight so I told them, 3130 lbs. When she gave me my bill which was $5346.00, mostly sales taxes, she said, "I've never collected on that large," I told her, "well, I have never paid one that large before either."

Of course, here now I will get hit with probably $1,000 in property taxes on the new Z next year and that figure drops every year.

HOLY CRAP! I thought new car taxes in NC were insane, but 5K? Did they charge extra for the vaseline? The property tax is at least double what I would pay here as well.

Wow..............
Here in PA sales tax is 6 or 7 percent depending on which county you are in.So on $70k,you would pay$4200 or $4900. If you trade in a vehicle you pay the tax on the difference. We dont pay property tax on vehicles though.
$ 65,800 MSRP
- 3,000 Discount
$ 62,800 Sub Total
+ 3,768 6 % Sales Tax
+ 36 Title
+ 24 License
+ 12.50 State Safety Inspection
+ N/C State Emissions Inspection
$ 66,640.50 Total Cost
I'll be paying $5862 sales tax (8.25%) on a VY 2LZ with Nav and Calif reg = $525
Won't pay sales tax...but will pay $26-$27K income tax....
In South Carolina new car sales tax is limited to $300. I transfered title from my old Z06 so there is a $10 fee. Way under $1,000!

WOW! That beats South Carolina. Do you have to pay property tax?
virginia sales tax is 3%.the county i live in charges 4% of assesed value every year.this tax was supposed to go away over a few years,but we got stuck with a democrat for governor so you can guess the rest of that story.as of now there is a reduced rate on the first 20k of assesed value.

Same here.
The state Of California may rape me on the sales tax and registration, but i write the Vette off 100% as a business expense and get it all back. There are many ways to screw the govt right back legally.

Yes, but that is more determined by the local town for mostly school issues a $400K house has about $5K property taxes. Business profit taxes and sales taxes on restuarants and hotels (soak the tourists I guess!) pay the state bills.
anybody know what the sales tax is one new cars in Texas????
Ok guys, don't fall off your seats but here are my taxes. I will be increasing the options but never the less.

We pay, in QUEBEC: 7% Goods and Services (Federal)
& 7.5% Provincial Sales TaX

So, in addition to taking more than half of your pay check (53%) they also ding you everytime you buy something. If I were not in love with this city and have all of my family here, I would move south. Especially since I have a beautiful Floidian wife.

It looks like it is 6% but I couldn't verify that 100%.

While searching I did find the attached which leads on to believe we might be able to deduct some of these sales taxes on our next income tax filings:
