WOW! My first post here. I can't even remember what my first post was over at the Forum..... OK, I'm selling my Coupe soon and I plan on getting a '02 Z06. I went to the dealer today and felt like I was being raped after seeing on the Window Sticker, "Limited Production------$3,000" There is no way I'm paying over MSRP. I got my MY Coupe way under MSRP, and that was when MY was considered a very hot commodity. Does every dealer charge MSRP or over? Another thing that really chapped my a$$ was the fact that it seemed I knew alot more about the Z06 than the guy I was talking to at the dealership. Did you all know that the memory option is not available on the Z06 and that the only interior you can get is the torch red interior? I sure as hell didn't. Even after explaining the facts to this guy, he probably still didn't believe me. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

I negotiated $500 under MSRP (which was 46,855 + 645 dest chrg) when I placed my order the first week of July. Pricing officially appeared in the GM system around July 1st. I do know that many people have negotiated MSRP or slightly below but many others have paid $3k to $5K over MSRP. It is a function of where you buy in many cases.

Many dealers at that time had no knowledge of the Z06 for 2001. So, if you talked to a dealer now about a 2002, it does not surprise me that they know very little. They probably won't know much for another couple of months and probably won't be able to order one until June. There have only been rumors on the 2002 so far, no "official" information has been released yet. You may read that some people have inside info but take that with a grain of salt. Some may be fact some may be wishful thinking.

There were only 5 options for the 2001 Z06; electrochromatic mirrors, memory package, floor mats, body side molding and front license plate. Interior choices were either all black or black with red inserts and lower trim. The interior choice was not an option but just a choice as was the cassette player versus a CD player.

You will probably hear the info here before your dealer; pricing, features and options.
Either way, shop around there is no reason to pay over MSRP.
Good luck

Money talks. I paid exactly MSRP even though they had a $5,000 "market adjustment" on the window for a MY in Jan. Oh, yes they had an offer from a Florida dealer for $2,000 over that but they somehow managed to take my check anyway......

I paid MSRP and was damn lucky to get that in Houston. The car did have a $10,000 market adjustment on it, which we quickly dispensed with. The car is worth every penney.

Since I am going on my 4th and 5th vette in 2 years my dealer discounted each 2002 by 4%!!! Heres the deal. '02 MY/red/black mn6 loaded vert[my son Chris claims it is a McDONALDS COLOR SCHEME!] The 2nd is the new Electron Blue ZO6 loaded. Since there remains some uncertainty regarding pricing, I hammered the dealer for the percentage discount. Dealer also agreed to take my Speedway white Z for $45K pending mileage doesn't exceed 6000 miles[has 2500 in 5 months]. I will swap out the chrome wheels and other cosmetic mods. He rubbed my face in the mud regarding the low demand issue of my SPDWY White. Overall I will get about a $4500 total savings plus save some sales tax $$$$ because of the trade. BTW When I ran this by my wife she AGREED WITH THE WHOLE THING, STATING THAT SHE WAS PROUD OF ME ONLY LOSING ONLY 6% OF OUR PORTFOLIO IN THE RECENT MARKET TURNDOWN!! In fact in '97, '98 and '99 I tripled our portfolio and she never said a word, GO FIGURE THIS WOMAN!!! KINDEST REGARDS TO ALL....... I AM LES/FUBU69

Thanks for the info guys!

fcalmes: Thanks for the "directions!"

2001Z06: Yeah, I know hot the rumor mill is. I still remember before the "official" numbers of the Z06 were announced that poeple were saying numbers like, 400hp and 425hp. Hell, that was before the Z06 itself was official! ...... Even though the black interior is a choice, the guy still insisted that you could only get the red interior. I can think of only one dealership in Nashville that can actually answer my questions without making me laugh. Of course if I'm driving the car everyday and visiting all of these Forums, I should know more......

MrCYA:

I was able to get a vry nice discount on my Z, but I bought it in winter from a dealer that had 4 in stock..he wanted to clear out what he had now. If you're interested their is a red Z06 for sale in todeay's Detroit's News. His name is Tony also, and the ad states it has been winter stored and has very low miles...asking $48,000/best offer. Phone 1-248-608-2803. Another ad is from a suburban Detroit dealer that has a red Z for sale. Call 1-810-229-8800.

Hope this helps, and welcome!

Thanks again for the welcome......

Zippy: I appreciate the numbers, but I can't do anything until I sell my car and my wife and I close on our house and get everything we need(ie- fridge, oven, surround sound system /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif , etc). I'm all set on a '02 Z. I do realize that the closer the '02s are available, the cheaper(maybe) I can get a '01 Z..... Like you all know, you can never have the latest "toy" for too long. Something better is always around the corner. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Welcome one more time! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif I bought my Z from a wholesaler, paid MSRP. I also got a great trade deal, way over book! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif They had two Zs, one red and one black, and needed the room for 2 more. Even though I paid MSRP "I" think I got a Great Deal, and after all, when buying anything, if the buyer is happy, its a great deal!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif The Z is a excellent ride and a lot of fun, and worth every cent!

On 2001-03-28 00:41, Zippy spewed forth this drivel:
Please give us more info on "Driver's Edge" rebate...I max out my GM Gold card each year, but that only gets me $500 off.

Thanks!

We didn't convert over to the new GM rebate plan, so I can build up to $3,500 in credits to use towards the purchase of any GM product.

Driver's Edge is the old Ford rebate card, which Ford discontinued. There is no limit on the rebate buildup and I believe the rebate credit is equal to 2% of the value of your purchase. To get the rebate you send in a copy of your purchase form and they send you a check which you get fairly quickly.

My strategy is to use the GM card until I get the $500 maximum annual addition, and then switch to using the Driver's Edge. I never pay interest on the cards. I have saved over $10,000 in using these credit cards to purchase new cars since their inception in the early 1990's, and it hasn't cost me a dime extra to use the cards.

Unfortunately the new GM card isn't nearly so generous, but because my wife read the agreement over carefully, we didin't convert our old card over to the new system of rebates, so I got $3,417 from the GM card towards the purchase of my Vette, and another $992 from Driver's Edge.
