Do it when the DIC tells you to. I'll do it when the oil life gets to about 25%. That was also recommended by c4c5specialist.
The days of changing oil every 3K miles are over, ESPECIALLY when running synthetic. The DIC has a nice algorithm that takes all kinds of things in to consideration.... rpm, speed, cold starts, age...etc, etc.
Sherylann changes hers every 5000 miles. Or should I say I am the one to take her Z to the dealer for the oil change. It's the only time let's me drive her Z, so I run that crap out of it when I drive it.
My DIC is down to 13% and I have about 8,700 miles since my first change at 900 miles. I will probably wait until it gets close to 0% which should not too far from 10,000 miles since my last change. I have only had to add one quart at about 7,400 miles.
I'm planning on 5000 miles MAX, or when the DIC says 50% -- which ever one happens first. I figure running it to 10,000+ miles is alittle much, and since Mobil 1 is about $4/qt if you buy it by the case, it's really not going to cost that much more in the long run.
My suggestion to all the R8C customers is 7,500 miles. This is half what Chevrolet recommends. That should be about 50% on the DIC. Like said previously the 3K mark is old school.....it is quite expensive to change the oil on this car, so make maximum use of it if you can.
When i take delivery of my car i plan during break -in to change at 500 miles(install magnetic drain plug) then change at 1000 miles break-in complete. Then i'll change every 3000 miles(cheap insurance).G
Torched -- just my opinion, but changing at 500 and then again at 1000 will buy you nothing. I'm going to do the 1st oil change at 1000 miles -- that should be plenty of running to get all the breaking wear out of the way.
