I've put this off as long as I could but the time has arrived. I've tried various methods to generate revenue to keep this site open but it's just not enough. Sure, I could go with a crappy host with no service, but remember, I do this for a living, I use the tools and hosting partners which provide us the most value for my money.

My last ditch effort was to scoop the revenue off Survivor-TheOutback.com and funnel it back into this site, but I'm not getting near the clickthrough's I'd hoped for. Before I continue, I must say that quite a few of you have been religious about helping, and I truly appreciate it, but the numbers just aren't there.

I regret to inform you that Z06vette.com can no longer financially sustain itself with no infusion of funds. So, without further ado, I'm going to make a final attempt to generate enough captial for us to continue to enjoy our kick-ass site which both myself and our fine moderators have worked so hard on these past months and to further develop this site as the ONLY Z06 resource worth visiting.

Effective as of March 20, the Merchant's page will be used only for vendors who choose to support Z06vette.com in a financial manner. In addition, we are looking for a supporting dealer to integrate some content of their choosing into the main site and the forum areas. (Details TBA)

In light of these new facts, the Z06vette.com main site buildout will be accelerated in an attempt to bring more value to these supporting members.

In addition, we will be building 2 sets of pages, one with the exact same format we have now, and one structured for ad placement so that we have a plan B to fall back on should we not receive the support needed.

Any proceeds will be used to maintain our site and anything above and beyond this amount will be used to upgrade hosts, software, and pay for the many cans of Coke I guzzle late at night coding these pages.

I had hoped that switching to this forum would buy us some more time, and it has, to some degree, but we're getting bigger and bigger...

To reiterate, the site buildout will proceed at a steady clip and new features and sections will be added to attempt to drive more traffic and more revenue to our supporting members.

Again, I regret to resorting to these actions, but this is the only viable way to sustain our growth.

I hope you all understand and continue to keep this place as the "only site that matters" for the best vette yet.

If you are a vendor or dealer and wish to support Z06vette.com, please contact me for details. [email protected]

JC

Whats wrong with this board,I can't view anything!
JC, I pose this as a question and not a suggestion. Would charging members dues bring in enough money to run this forum and keep it free from vendors and dealers?
I thought of this, but I don't think that would be fair to our members. After all, we're here for free, focused information. I can say that anything done in the forum area will be tasteful, unobtrusive, and in no way affect the useability or speed of this board.

Does that help any?

JC
Yes, Thanks
JC, you can probably run this forum for less than $20/month. If you need details please privately e-mail me. The servers I use(d) are very good, reliable, and I have over three years' experience with them. It's better than having to commercialize. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I am personally ok with there being a vendor supported section and site. I just bought my first exterior mod from a link posted on this site and I will let the store know I saw them only here if that will help. I would only hope you can get a good selection of vendors so that competition and selection is enhanced.

My view:
Commercial does not have to be bad if the site does not prostitute itself for the ones who are paying.

Also, I receive tons of support in my line of work but that doesn't impact my communication. If I brag on a product its only because I like it.
JC,

You gotta do what you gotta do. Best of luck in keeping this board up. I enjoy this forum and members a great deal. The "feel" of this group is just right for me. As long as it continues, I can put up with a lot of stuff (including small fees) if need be. Please keep the good "feel" going - cause that's why I'm here!
I don't have a problem with touting wares on the forum. If it gets carried away, which on some forums it has gotten carried away IMHO, it serve little purpose than advertising with a little info around it.

The corporation I work for believes in honesty in advertising. I do to. It's ok here too, if it's honest and not payola.

I have NO problem with advertising on this site, as long as the ads are Corvette-related. Hell, I like the idea of having Corvette links at my fingertips. I just don't like the idea of someone bad-mouting a product/vendor, and that vendor posting that he should have come to him first before airing his dirty laundry, yadda yadda yadda (as can be seen on some other sites).

Vendors should be used as a resource here -- not as the end-all be-all of Vette knowledge/products. I feel that as long as this is recognized (by the vendors), then there can be a very happy, coexistence here.

JC:

We all must accept certain realities, and if one is that in order to sustain this forum, which many others and I have come to not only enjoy but also to rely upon as well, we must endure a modicum of advertisement, then I say do what you have to do. Moreover, asking merchants who enjoy virtually effortless access to many pre-qualified buyers to contribute financially to this forum is not an outrageous request.

You, Frank, and Carl maintain a great forum, and I for one trust you implicitly. I am certain that you will do the right thing, and I will support you all the way.

Mike
I'd have to agree with Redshift. Have you considered any other hosting options? There seems to be many companies hosting that do not charge lots of $$$'s. Again, I'm not sure how much bandwidth your transferring/day and what type of box you need (looks like unix with php/mysql??).

Regardless, this site is great and just let me know what we need to do to keep it up and running!!!!

I think it's a good idea to let vendors drop ads in the forum. I am always looking around for some new stuff and they generally don't become too obtrusive or they end up getting flamed. Do what you need to do to keep going.
How about giving vendors a thread to interact with Z06 forum members for Z06 related parts. The members would be able to ask for specs and install help directly from the vendor and the vendor will have a targeted potential customer base. The rest of the Z06 forum is for members to keep the vendors honest!
How many clicks a day do you need on the survivor site?

What exactly is a click-through, for those of us who want to make sure our clicks are counted.
JC , DO IT !!! No reasonable person should expect you to lose $$$ on this venture. In fact I wouldn't begrudge you if you made a few bucks, I would!!! You guys have done a wonderful job here. It's ashame that some visitors are to lazy to click on the SURVIVOR SITE. Do what ever you have to do to promote the longevity of this site!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS , LES/FUBU69 JMHO

Clicking through constitutes of going to the Survivor site and clicking the large top banner ad, usually MSN or Metwork Solutions banner.

We'll see what happens...either way, I still need you guys to keep on clicking!

Thanks for all the support...

JC
I also would not be opposed to a reasonable membership fee. I realize that might be risky though. I will continue clicking and continue to try to support this board no matter what you do. Good luck./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
