Good choice.
I had a '98 Cobra before I bought my Z, so I know how you must feel. There is no comparison between the Z06 and the '98 Cobra. The Z06 really snaps your neck. The Cobra was fast, but lacked low-end torque because of its relatively small displacment DOHC engine.

Thanks for the replies
Ron, could you please scan in that article and email it to me??? I guess I'd have to order a back issue of that mag. I'm going to run to the store now and see if I can find a copy of Corvette Fever. Any other magazines that I should look for? The shifter install sounds more complicated than my Mustang, I might just have someone else do it. I have basic tools, and am pretty handy, but don't want to screw up my brand new car!

Frank, I think it's cool that your wife is into cars. Now, why can't I meet a man who's into cars as much as I am! Hehehe.

Welcome aboard MS KWIK.

Your username sounded so familiar and it came together when you mentioned Mustangs. I've talked to you a couple of time Looong ago on the Corral BBS when I had my 97 GT and went by the handle 97VortechGT. I remember you having a Saleen but not the S351. Sweet ride. You'll love the Z06.

This car is awesome! Being a former Mustang owner (well, actually I still own one Mustang, hehe) I swore I'd never buy a GM product, after seeing all the lemons my Mom bought over the years ('79 Buick Regal, '86 Pontiac Firebird). I've read several articles, and comments from owners before I decided on this Corvette. I was just going to buy a regular automatic coupe (I wanted an auto for daily driving), but I got a pretty good deal on this Z06, and they paid off my Cobra, which I was $6,500 upside down in. I found the car on the Internet, and stopped by the dealer (La Brea Chevrolet in Los Angeles) last night after work. Three hours later, I wound up driving a black Z06 home
I paid $51K for the car, but they buried all of that negative equity, so actually I got a pretty good deal. Oh, when I walked in, there was a $15K markup on the car!

It definitely needs a shifter though. Anyone know how hard it is to install one? I'm used to doing a few things on my cars, I've installed shifters in my Mustangs. Also, any modifications that I can do, like a cold air intake kit? I know nothing about Corvettes, I'm a Mustang girl
Any performance shops around Southern CA? My two mechanics are Mustang guys, not sure if they want to work on a Chevy

I look forward to joining a local Corvette club and maybe autocrossing this car
I'm sure it will run circles around the Mustangs....

Welcome. Congrats on the new ride.
The hardest part of the shifter install is gettin out the T-bar retainer on the stock shifter knob.

Shelley,

Welcome to the Forum!!

There are several easy mods you can do. The shifter should be the first thing to go. I have a Ripper in mine, but the wife says its too hard for her to shift. I think its just right.
Next, air intake. There are several to choose from and they all produce approximately the same results. Choose the one to your liking.

MS KWIK, Welcome aboard. I too sold my 96 Mystic Cobra but only to get my Z06 (also had to sell by 96 LT4 Vette). I really miss my mystic but the Z06 is worth it. I think you will find so too. Lot of nice things you can do to it.

Shelly, congratulations, Marks right about getting out the tbar retainer. I chipped it to pieces removing mine. Finally my best friend whos a GM tech gets the small screw driver and just pops it out. Taking the rest off should be a breeze. You will find a complete guide to changing your shifter in the Dec 2000 Corvette Fever Magizine. Page 18. If you cant get your hands on one email me and I will scan it and send it to you. Once again enjoy
