K&N filter replacement...UGH!!!

1520 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  ZEEE 06
This seemed too hard, took the filter assembly off completely, installed the gasket, tried to put the whole thing together and install the assembled unit, didn't work ,then installed the unit without the filter and tried to put the filter in but it kept going in crooked, finally got it to fit (Ithink) almost NEVER got it back together again. I guess I got it back right. Any suggestions on how to do this easily?

I didn't use the gasket since the stock did not have one. Seems to work ok w/o any leakage.

One of those little "tidbits" they don't mention about the K&N gasket. Makes the cover fit REAL tight and it's hard to assemble. If you have it all together, don't mess with it. Otherwise, I'd leave the "gasket" off.

This isn't as hard as it looks. The gasket is adhesive backed. I installed mine from the front of the car under the open hood. Takes a little bit of putsing, but not a big deal, also wipe out the lower part of the airbox with a rag to clean the surface so the gasket sticks better.
Doubt that there is a difference with or with out it though, I just put it in as per the instructions.

The easiest thing to do is to take the airbox out of the car (takes only a minute) and do it that way. I was not sure about leaving the gasket out (in case anything were to get by the filter and cause problems) so I ended up moving right to a cold air system, but now that I know how to remove the airbox that would be my recommendation.

Where did you get it? I want the K&N that will fit in the stock air box, so I don't have to worry about water problems. Is that the K&N you guys are talking about?

Scott,
You might check Redshifts C5Store...they are shown under "under the hood" as K&N Factory Filter Replacement. The K&N allows for less restrictive air flow compared to the stock filter.

Redshift is right. We disconected at TB and removed the compleat assembly. A few things to disconect but probably the best way. Ric

Bob, thanks for the referral. Scott, I apologize for the lack of a search engine on the Store site and will get that fixed ASAP to make it easier to find what you need.
